Hours
Full-time, occasional evening or weekend hours.
Location
Office is located at 103 3 Avenue East, Shakopee, MN. SVA serves victim/survivors for all of Scott and Carver County, occasional travel may be required.

Job Summary
The Legal Advocate is responsible for managing the Criminal Justice Intervention (CJI) and support group programs. They also provide court advocacy, assist with protective orders, and work directly with victims of domestic violence. This is a non-attorney position.
Core Job Functions
- Increase victims’ understanding of their rights, court process and options.
- Attend civil and criminal court hearings with victim/survivors to provide navigation and support.
- Assist victim/survivors in writing and submitting Orders for Protection/Harassment Restraining Orders both in-person and over the phone.
- Respond to victim/survivors that have been referred by local law enforcement through the Criminal Justice Intervention program.
- Provide trauma informed safety planning, assessment, and supportive services to domestic violence victim/survivors.
- Manage SVA’s two victim/survivor support groups. Work with Volunteer Manager to coordinate trained volunteer facilitators.
- Provide ongoing support and training to SVA’s court advocacy and support group volunteers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date data entry into client database and necessary paperwork, including case noting, documentation of services and referrals provided.
Education and Experience
- Multilingual applicants preferred.
- Direct advocacy experience in domestic violence or related fields preferred.
- Experience being self-directed in carrying out program goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice, or related field preferred OR equivalent and relevant experience.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check.
Position Type:
Full Time/Exempt
Salary:
$53,000-$60,000 dependent on experience and qualifications.
