Summary
Under the direction of the Claims Manager, the Commercial Lines Adjuster I is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving commercial property and commercial auto claims of low to moderate complexity. The role focuses on accurate coverage analysis, timely communication, and fair claim resolution, while maintaining strong relationships with insureds, agents, and vendors. This position does not handle bodily injury or medical-related claims.
Essential Functions
Pursuant to Company business strategies and good faith claims practices:
- Investigate assigned commercial property and auto physical damage claims to determine coverage, cause of loss, and extent of damages.
- Review and interpret policy language, endorsements, and exclusions to confirm applicable coverage.
- Obtain statements, photographs, repair estimates, and other documentation necessary for claim evaluation.
- Coordinate with contractors, appraisers, and independent adjusters to verify scope and accuracy of repairs or damages.
- Evaluate repair or replacement costs, apply depreciation where appropriate, and negotiate settlements within authorized limits.
- Identify potential subrogation or recovery opportunities and refer as appropriate.
- Document all claim activities and communications clearly, accurately, and timely in the claim management system.
- Communicate proactively with insureds, agents, and internal stakeholders to provide claim status updates and ensure exceptional customer service. Maintain compliance with all regulatory timelines, correspondence standards, and fair claim handling requirements.
Job Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience handling property or auto claims; prior commercial lines experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of insurance coverage interpretation, estimating principles, and claim file documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and claims management systems.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple files in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be available to work during disaster or catastrophe situations (including nights/weekends) as required.
- Holds a Georgia Adjusters License Proficiency in Microsoft Office and claims management systems.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Experience handling fleet, heavy equipment, or trucking unit claims.
- Familiarity with garagekeepers, dealer’s open lot, or inland marine coverage.
- Prior work with salvage, subrogation, or total loss processing.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of commercial insurance policy forms including Businessowners (BOP), Commercial Package, and Commercial Auto.
- Familiarity with estimating platforms and vendor management tools.
- Working knowledge of estimating methods, auto body parts, and repair procedures for vehicle losses. Understanding of subrogation, salvage, and recovery processes.
