What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight IT Systems Operator position at Southern Tire Mart LLC?
Location: Columbia, MS
Schedule: 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM, Sunday through Thursday)

Reports To: IT Systems Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- After-Hours Support:
Respond to and resolve incoming after-hours IT support calls and tickets, escalating issues as needed to appropriate personnel. - System Monitoring:
Monitor critical IT infrastructure including servers, network devices, backups, and key applications to ensure 24/7 uptime and performance. - Routine Maintenance:
Perform scheduled system checks, updates, and maintenance tasks during off-peak hours allowing minimal disruption to users. - Device Imaging/Hardware Firmware Updates
Prepare and deploy standard images for PCs and laptops; perform hardware firmware upgrades, manage device configurations and ensure proper installation of software and security updates. - Logging and Documentation:
Maintain detailed logs of system activity, maintenance tasks, and support incidents; update internal documentation as needed. - Incident Response:
Quickly identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system alerts or outages; notify appropriate stakeholders and follow established escalation procedures.
Qualifications:
- Education:
Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may substitute for formal education. - Experience:
1–3 years of experience in IT support, system operations, or a related role. - Technical Skills:
- Proficient with Windows operating systems and Active Directory
- Familiar with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix)
- Experience with imaging tools (e.g., MDT, SCCM, Clonezilla, Acronis)
- Basic understanding of networking concepts and server administration
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Calm under pressure and responsive to urgent situations
Working Conditions:
- This is an overnight position, requiring consistent availability during night shift hours.
- May require weekend or holiday coverage on a rotational basis.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods; may need to lift and move equipment up to 40 lbs.
