Head Start Parent Coordinator

This position is a full time (partial year) position and is based at the
Egyptian Head Start in Tamms, Illinois. It does come with a benefit package (including vacation, personal, and sick time accrual, holidays, health and life insurance, and an employer sponsored cafeteria plan).


Qualifications:

  • Must be at least nineteen years of age, AND
  • Prefer Bachelors Degree in Social Work or in an approved related field OR
  • Associates Degree in Social Work or in an approved related field OR
  • Associates Degree in a non-social work related field with a Family Service credential

Salary Range: $18.01 - $22.48 hourly


Job Duties:

  • Completes Family Assessment and assists families with setting goals during the Family Partnership Agreement. Completes follow up periodically to measure progress of goals.
  • Works with families to obtain information needed such as but not limited to: health records, consent forms, and any needed follow up treatment.
  • Completes home visits with families as needed.
  • Documents all case management activities into an online program specific data base and ensures children’s files are up-to-date as per program policies.
  • Assists families with advocacy such as attending IEP/IFSP meetings, parent meetings, etc.
  • Participates in attendance analysis meetings and works collaboratively with the Teaching Team to address attendance issues and in setting attendance agreements with the families.
  • Facilitates parent meetings on a monthly basis at location and encourages parent, family, and community engagement activities.
  • Organizes recruitment activities for children and families to become familiar with the program.
  • Completes a face to face intake including income verification for families applying for the program.
  • Completes and submits required documentation and reports according to the Activity Calendar.
  • Responsible for developing a partnership with parents and caregivers in the Head Start program and encourages each parent/caregiver to take in active role in their child’s Head Start experience.
  • Maintains a knowledge of the community (s) and area resources and refers families for any needed services and advocates for the family in securing services. Attends interagency/community meetings to inform others on services offered by Head Start and to stay current of available resources for families.
  • Assists families with children’s transitions into the program, from Early Head Start to Head Start, and from Head Start to Kindergarten.
  • Participates in staff meetings, center activities, parent coordinator meetings, and staff development.
  • Maintains child, family, and employee confidentiality.
  • Follows written procedures for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect as per Mandated Reporter status.
  • Participates in the federal and annual program review.
  • Responsible for carrying out best practices for safety procedures concerning children, staff, families, and community individuals and for assessing current practices and finding ways and areas needing improvement.
  • Responsible for participating in activities and attitudes that promote positive public relations and positive image for the program and agency.
  • Complies and is familiar with the requirements of the policies and procedures adopted by Southern Seven Health Department as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Reports potential problems and concerns to Site Supervisor.
