Position Summary
The Communications Coordinator will assist in the planning and coordination of all activities relative to Marketing, Member Services, and Communications. This role is primarily responsible for internal communications, including monthly employee newsletter, employee engagement, content development for website and social media, writing press releases/articles, and performing administrative duties related to Marketing & Member Services programs. The Communications Coordinator will assist the Marketing & Communications Supervisor with journalistic, advertising, and community relations efforts of the cooperative including social media and various publications.
Responsibilities
- Initiates and maintains effective communication plans for member-education programs.
- Assists in writing and distributing press releases, and industry-related articles for print and digital, social media, and website.
- Coordinates the production of the employee newsletter and establishes a member e-newsletter.
- Learn and understand the cooperative business model, SRE’s policies, practices, positions, and rates.
- Serves as the cooperative's videographer responsible for planning, production, editing, and presentation of videos.
- Provides administrative support, and coordinates scheduling for youth, education, and community outreach programs.
- Coordinates and schedules requests for speakers and presentations for the department.
- Develops internal and external content for digital advertising
- Serves as a department liaison, communicating regularly with other departments to identify any communication or publication needs (pamphlets, videos, talking points, etc.).
- Represents the cooperative at community events, business meetings, and career fairs in accordance with established procedures.
- Assists the Marketing/Communications Supervisor with website and social media, storm response team, photography, graphic design, Communicators’ Mutual Aid program, community involvement, and special events as directed.
- Assists Human Resources and Member Services with employee engagement and initiatives as directed.
- Assist in the development of SRE's strategic communications plan and editorial calendar.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Preferred training and experience for this position include an Associate’s degree, in business, marketing, communications, or a related field with one to three years of experience in communications or marketing, or any equivalent combination of education and work experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Candidates must be skilled in both written and oral communications, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills and be able to multi-task.
Experience in developing and implementing communications programs including publication of newsletters, annual reports, other printed communications, and website content is preferred.
Must possess, and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license and pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check.
Equipment and programs: Must be able to operate computers and other basic office equipment. Requires proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Browsers, and Desktop Publishing Software. Familiarity with video editing software, and Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop is a plus.
Working Conditions
This in-person job operates in a professional office environment and requires a commitment to community involvement. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines and involves prolonged sitting at a desk. Traveling in a vehicle will be required to various locations throughout the Cooperative’s service territory. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties and deadlines demand. Professional development opportunities are offered each year and may require overnight and/or air travel. The general work environment is pleasant but can become stressful during extreme weather events and/or extended outages.
