Responsibilities
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop drawings to accurately assemble structural components.
- Measure, cut, and fit metal materials using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and measuring tapes.
- Operate power tools, hand tools, plasma cutters, and welding equipment including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding).
- Fabricate metal structures by welding according to AWS (American Welding Society) standards and ASME codes & standards while maintaining quality control.
- Use shop math and basic math skills for accurate measurements, calculations, and assembly procedures.
- Assemble structural components with precision using mechanical fabrication techniques while adhering to safety protocols.
- Conduct inspections of completed work using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety procedures related to construction site activities, welding operations, and the use of power tools.
- Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines while ensuring high standards of craftsmanship and safety.
Qualifications
- Proven construction site experience with a strong background in metal fabrication and structural assembly.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and interpreting mechanical blueprints accurately.
- Experience operating welding equipment including MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW, and GMAW processes in accordance with AWS standards.
- Skilled in using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, shop math tools, and other measurement devices.
- Knowledge of ASME codes & standards related to metal fabrication and welding practices.
- Ability to operate power tools safely including grinders, drills, plasma cutters, and hand tools required for assembly tasks.
- Mechanical knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, machining processes, plasma cutting techniques, and assembly procedures.
- Familiarity with construction site safety protocols and adherence to OSHA regulations or equivalent safety standards.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic math skills necessary for precise measurements and calculations related to fabrication tasks.
