Description:
The Public Health Intern, under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, will support activities focused on health promotion, testing, and prevention efforts related to HIV, HCV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and substance use disorders.
The Public Health intern will support a range of programmatic activities, including hands-on prevention kit assembly and packaging, processing and mailing prevention and self-testing kit orders, and other related tasks. The intern will support community outreach efforts by assisting with outreach planning, preparation of educational materials, attending outreach, and documenting outreach activities.
This internship is structured as a learning and capacity-building opportunity, providing hands-on experience in grant-supported public health. The intern will receive training and supervision to ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with Tribal, state, and federal standards, as well as grant requirements and organizational policies.
Interns will be trained and instructed in proper office etiquette and professional protocol, with special emphasis on developing foundational knowledge and skills in the following core areas:
- The fundamentals of non-profit organizations, including mission-driven programming and operations.
- The fundamentals and functions of Tribal Epidemiology Centers and their role in data collection, surveillance, and public health support in Indian Country.
- The fundamentals of grants management, including compliance, reporting, and program implementation.
- The fundamentals of Tribal health systems and Tribal public health (Indian Health System), including:
a. Indian Health Service (IHS)
b. Tribal Health Facilities
c. Urban Indian Health Facilities
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
- Interest in public health, grant-funded initiatives, or Tribal health systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and adhere to grant requirements and public health standards.
Knowledge:
- Willingness to learn about grant-funded program structures.
- Willingness to learn and adhere to confidentiality, data privacy, and ethical standards in public health work.
- Openness to learning about Tribal public health systems and culturally responsive approaches to community health.
Special Skills:
Interns should be able to demonstrate the ability to carry out the following specialized duties and activities:
- General workplace professionalism including dress and communication.
- Basic office skills; filing and organizing, answer calls use of common office equipment.
- Ability to learn new software programs quickly.
Mandatory Minimum: High School Diploma and enrolled in a college degree program in a related field of study.

In and out-of-state travel may be required in fulfillment of job requirements and training.

Salary : $16 - $19
