Position Summary:
The Division of Education, Health and Leadership at Southern Oregon University (SOU) is seeking candidates for a full-time, nine month, professional-track, Instructor. We are seeking a creative and curious colleague who will model exemplary teaching and engagement with our local and regional educational partners. Applicants should have the ability to teach in three or more of the following areas: inclusion strategies, behavior management, IEP development, transitions planning, special education law and policy, administration and interpretation of assessments, Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Teaching responsibilities include graduate and undergraduate courses and may include online courses.

Other responsibilities include supervising student teaching in field settings, advising, curriculum development, research, professional affiliations as appropriate, and other responsibilities as assigned.

Southern Oregon University is a public liberal arts institution of approximately 6,000 undergraduate and 500 graduate students. The surrounding area is known for cultural offerings such as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Ashland International Film Festival, and the Britt Music Festival. The Rogue Valley is also renowned for outdoor activities such as hiking, snowboarding, and fishing.

Minimum Qualifications:
Initial appointment at the rank of Instructor requires a Masters degree in Special Education or a related field. A minimum of three years teaching experience in public school settings Evidence of ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with university, public school partners and community. Ability to teach in three or more of the following areas: inclusion strategies, behavior management, IEP development, transitions planning, special education law and policy, administration and interpretation of assessments, Autism Spectrum Disorder. Candidates must have exceptional written and verbal skills as well as a desire to advise and mentor students outside of the classroom. The candidate should demonstrate competency in teaching and should have experience incorporating subject matter content into undergraduate or graduate level instruction curricula.

Preferred Qualification :
Terminal degree, or ABD in Special Education or related field Earned credential in Autism Spectrum Disorder or Applied Behavior Analysis Traditional and online teaching experience in a college or university setting Experience with teacher performance assessment instruments Experience working with in-service teachers for staff development and/or advanced licensure Grant writing experience
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching and supervising graduate students, first-generation college students, and diverse student populations.

Special Conditions
Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
