Southern Oregon Education Service District (SOESD) Early Childhood Services (ECS), a widely recognized early childhood special education program committed to inclusion, family partnership, and developmentally appropriate practices, invites applications for a Speech/Language Pathologist Assistant at the Allen Creek pPreschool in Grants Pass.

Speech/Language Pathologist Assistant

Position Goal

Provide assistance in assessment, therapy, preparation of materials, and clerical tasks as specified by the assigned pathologist.

Level Of Responsibility/Supervision

The Speech/Language Pathology Assistant is a professional holding a certificate of current licensure from the Oregon State Board of Examiners. The S/LPA works under the direction of the Speech/Language Pathologist (S/LP) as an integral member of the Early Intervention or IEP Team. Therapy interventions are provided in accordance with the child's individual goals, using methods which emphasize functional skills and typical developmental and educational settings, as prescribed and designed by the Speech-Language Pathologist. The S/LPA also acts as a support to the Speech/Language Pathologist by preparing materials, scheduling appointments, and recording data as requested.

Essential Functions

(Positions may consist of some or all of the following duties.)

  • Collect/record speech-language samples to be given to the S/LP for interpretation.
  • Record therapy response data for the S/LP to interpret.
  • Document child performance and changes in performance to be given to the S/LP for interpretation.
  • Provide direct therapy according to a plan prescribed, designed, and regularly reviewed by the S/LP.
  • Assist the S/LP with speech/language/hearing screenings, without interpreting the information gathered.
  • Prepare therapy materials.
  • Schedule therapy-related activities and appointments.
  • Sign and initial treatment logs with co-signature of the S/LP.
  • Complete and sign third party billing reports (private and Oregon Health Plan) with co-signature of S/LP, in a timely manner, and in accordance with ESD policy and state law
  • Comply with HIPPA and FERPA regulations.
  • Participate in professional research projects and inservice trainings as necessary.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by S/LP and/or Early Intervention Therapy Specialist.
  • Comply with EI/ECSE, special education, and ESD rules and policies.
  • Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Prerequisites

  • Minimum of a certificate in Speech-Language Pathology Assisting, while the Associate of Applied Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assisting is preferred.
  • Must hold, or be eligible to hold, current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant in the State of Oregon, and must be eligible for certification as a Medicaid provider.
  • Knowledge of child development, developmental disabilities, and knowledge/experience pertinent to the area of communication disorders.
  • Commitment to learn techniques, procedures, and routines quickly, follow oral and written instructions rapidly and accurately, and follow the directives of the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to establish effective working relationships with staff as well as with the children and families served.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and a safe driving record.
  • Must obtain First Aid certification within sixty (60) days of employment.
  • Pass a background check and maintain enrollment in the Child Care Division Criminal History registry.

LOCATION: In person at ECSE Ramsey Learning Center at 711 SW Ramsey Ave Building A, Grants Pass, Oregon 97527

LENGTH OF POSITION: 1.0/190 days

SALARY: Southern Oregon ESD Classified Hourly Compensation Schedule 2026-2027: $25.75/hr. to $30.84/hr. per the classified collective bargaining agreement.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Speech/Language Pathologist or Early Intervention Therapy Specialist
