Southern Oregon ESD seeks a member to join our Early Childhood Services (ECS) team. Our transdisciplinary team of 35 dedicated teachers, assistants, family consultants, therapists, evaluators, and office professionals are focused on authentic and supportive relationships, professional growth through coaching and mentoring, and maintaining a “family feel” to our workplace. Early Intervention Teaching Assistant III

Position Goal

The Early Intervention Teaching Assistant III works as a part of the team providing classroom and/or home instruction to children with developmental delays.

Level Of Responsibility/Supervision

The Early Intervention Teaching Assistant III spends the majority of time in direct contact with children, in either individual or small group settings. Some work may be performed independently in a child’s home. Working under the direction of an Early Intervention Specialist, the Early Intervention Teaching Assistant III implements Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) objectives designed to remediate delays in areas of motor, cognitive, self-help, social and language development.

Essential Functions

(Positions may consist of some or all of the following duties.)

  • Provide small group instruction in socialization, motor, cognitive, self-help and language development.
  • Provide individualized instruction in cognitive, self-help, motor, social and language development.
  • Accurately record data on children's progress on IFSP objectives daily, in accordance with IFSPs.
  • Supervise children at all times, during structured activities, free play, or snack/lunch time.
  • Under the direction of a therapist, prepare materials for and implement specialized motor and communication programs (e.g., phonology group and motor groups).
  • Assist with purchasing and preparation of snack.
  • Plan, organize, and lead weekly art projects, music activities or circle time activities.
  • Under the direction of teacher or specialist, implement home or classroom based individualized instruction programs for young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • In the absence of the Early Intervention Associate, act as designated lead assistant in the preschool or toddler classroom.
  • Assist the Early Intervention Specialist in ensuring a clean, safe and attractive environment is maintained.
  • Participate as member of curriculum and goal planning team.
  • Attend trainings as required.
  • Attend IFSP meetings as requested.
  • Assist with the collection of data for developmental assessments of children.
  • Comply with EI/ECSE and ESD rules and policies.
  • Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Prerequisites

  • Requires a CDA or AA degree in related field and at least one year experience working with children with special needs including children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, or any suitable combination of training and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above described duties.
  • Experience with developmental delays, developmentally appropriate practices and behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with children, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and other involved persons.
  • Must demonstrate competency in the use of specialized instructional techniques including, (but not limited to) PECS, PRT, DTT and TEACCH.
  • Ability to follow directions and to exercise appropriate independent judgment as called for.
  • Ability to work in a structured setting and to deal with stress/pressure.
  • Must obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within sixty (60) days of employment.
  • Possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and a safe driving record.
  • Pass a background check and maintain enrollment in the Child Care Division Criminal History registry.

LOCATION: In person at the Gilbert Creek Child Development Center: 1021 NW Highland Ave, Grants Pass, OR 97526

LENGTH OF POSITION: 1.0 FTE / 190-day calendar (academic year)

PAY: Per Collective Bargaining Agreement: $19.09/hr to $22.86/hr for the 2025-2026 school year.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Department Administrator
