SOESD's Student Behavioral Health and Wellness team is seeking qualified applicants for a School Improvement Specialist to join their work throughout Jackson, Josephine and Klamath Counties. This individual will support the development of strong multi-tiered systems of social-emotional, mental health and behavioral support within our local school systems through a combination of consultation, coaching and staff development. The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience delivering in-class instruction in multiple subjects for diverse learners, including youth experiencing mental health and behavioral barriers.
- Knowledge of and the ability to effectively apply trauma-informed practices in an educational setting.
- The belief that all students can and will learn when given the appropriate tools and support.
- Experience providing social-emotional-learning opportunities for diverse youth in a public education setting.
- A strong understanding of the principals of universal design and multi-tiered systems of support.
- The ability to collaborate effectively and professionally with a large team of professionals working together to ensure the success of youth within the program.

School Improvement Specialist
POSITION GOAL: Provide leadership, expertise, professional development and support for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Support SOESD, schools, and districts in achieving their goals and in meeting Oregon requirements by developing and providing consultation, facilitation, and professional development services.
- Collaborate across programs, districts, and organizations to support implementation of federal, state, and local initiatives.
- Support curriculum, instruction, and assessment to meet content and performance standards.
- Support specific projects, such as traditional and digital instructional materials adoption, curriculum alignment, blended learning, teacher evaluation, mentoring, and work sample scoring.
- Assist with grant and contract applications, implementation, and evaluation.
- Serve as liaison and maintain communication with Oregon Department of Education and other state or private agencies regarding curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement.
- Keep up to date on local, state, and national trends, rules, laws, and legislation related to schools, teaching, learning, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement.
- Participate in continuous improvement of knowledge and skills for effective teaching and learning by studying, attending classes and conferences, and participating in training.
- Make effective group presentations to diverse audiences and organizations, and facilitate consensus at meetings of diverse stakeholders.
- Use professional communication and conduct to communicate clearly and appropriately, and make professional decisions within established procedures.
- Establish and maintain high-trust relationships.
- Comply with SOESD and partner organizations’ rules, policies and procedures.
- Perform physical requirements unaided or with assistance of some reasonable accommodation.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM PREREQUISITES:
- Valid Oregon Driver's License.
- Valid Oregon Teaching License.
- Master’s degree in education or related field preferred.
- Successful experience with continuous school improvement strategies and with curriculum, instruction, and assessment to implement adopted content and performance standards.
- At least five years’ experience in public education as a classroom teacher preferred.
- At least two years’ experience in providing professional development at a regional level preferred.
- The equivalent combination of experience, training, certification, education or degree that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be used as an alternative to prerequisites.
