Department: Athletic Training

Shift/schedule: Full Time (40 hrs/wk)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the supervision of the Certified Athletic Trainer and the Wellness Operations Manager. The Certified Athletic Trainer's primary job function is to provide athletic training services under the supervision of a physician, physician assistant and physical therapist in a team environment consistent with qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards. The Certified Athletic Trainer will work closely and coordinate sports programs with Community Health and Wellness, Outpatient Rehab and other hospital departments on providing services to designated schools, local organizations and the community.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an approved four year NATA degree program in Athletic Training or equivalent field required

Licensure:

  • BOC Certified AT required
  • State licensure required
  • BLS within 60 days of hire required
  • BMVL Required
  • KY BOC preferred

Experience:

  • Six months experience in athletic training related field preferred.

    JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

    1. Participate in continuing education/professional development activities.
    2. Communicate and demonstrate a professional image/attitude for patients, families, clients, coworkers and others.
    3. Adhere to policies and practices of applicable for SOMC and professional organizations
    4. Provide patient and family education on tasks and resources that will assist with continued functional independence.
    5. Collaborate with the physical therapist to develop new methods of delivering education to patients and families.
    6. Participate in sporting events as requested by the organization.
    7. Provide age appropriate therapeutic interventions as directed by the physician, physician assistant or physical therapist.
    8. Evaluate patient response to treatment.
    9. Document the course of patient care including progress made and continuing need for treatment to parents, coaches and physicians.
    10. Function as a resource for and provide team members with inservice/cross-training on athletic training knowledge and skill areas.
    11. Participate in program quality management activities.
    12. Collect quality review data.
    13. Contribute to the delivery of cost effective care.
    14. Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness in order to provide emergency or continued care, and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
    15. Care for athletic injuries using physical therapy equipment, techniques, and medication.
    16. Evaluate athletes' readiness to play, and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.
    17. Apply protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces
    18. Collaborate with physicians in order to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
    19. Advise athletes on the proper use of equipment.
    20. Plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention programs.
    21. Develop training programs and routines designed to improve athletic performance.
    22. Travel with athletic teams in order to be available at sporting events.
    23. Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, and community members in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
    24. Conduct research and provide instruction on subject matter related to athletic training or sports medicine.
    25. Confer with coaches in order to select protective equipment.
    26. Provide stream line access for injured athletes to hospitals.
    27. Perform team-support duties such as running errands, maintaining equipment, and stocking supplies.
    28. Provide stretching exercises for team members that are beneficial to games and practices.
    29. Assists physicians in a Physician Office setting.
    30. Assists the provider in navigating the medical record.
    31. Assists providers with back office duties including rooming patients, taking vitals, and assisting in minor procedures.
    32. Performs other duties as assigned.
