Responsibilities
- Assist licensed occupational therapists in developing and implementing individualized care plans for patients.
- Support patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility exercises, fostering independence and confidence.
- Help evaluate patient progress by observing responses to therapy interventions and documenting outcomes accurately.
- Contribute to the preparation of treatment areas and ensure all equipment used complies with safety standards.
- Educate patients and their families on therapeutic exercises, safety techniques, and adaptive strategies to promote ongoing recovery.
- Maintain detailed records of patient care activities, progress notes, and communication with the healthcare team to ensure seamless continuity of care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including physicians, nurses, speech therapists, and physical therapists—to optimize patient outcomes in acute care.
Qualifications
- Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) from an accredited program.
- Experience working in inpatient settings such as hospitals or skilled nursing facilities is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards.
- Ability to assist with ADLs effectively while demonstrating patience and empathy for the geriatric population.
