About the Position:
The focus for the position of assistant/associate athletic trainer is to promote and protect the health and well-being for intercollegiate student-athletes. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing care for all Division I student-athletes.The primary sport assignment will be to provide coverage for the women's soccer team.This position will also have various administrative duties to support the functions of the sports medicine unit and services provided to student-athletes.The role of the assistant / associate athletic trainer will play a vital role in supporting the mission and values of the Athletic Department. While working within the scope of state and national regulations and guidelines, the athletic trainer will also provide significant contributions towards safety and risk management.
Appointment as Assistant Athletic Trainer or Associate Athletic Trainer dependent on qualifications and experience.
Essential Functions:
Education, prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
Traveling with respective teams to provide care and support while on the road for competition.
Medical record keeping / Injury tracking / monitoring
Administrative responsibilities / duties
The position requires regular evening and weekend work to provide services during practices and competitions.
The position requires occasional travel to provide support and care for student-athletes and coaches for away competition. Travel will be expected during high level competition what would include conference and national championships.
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree is required. Degree in athletic training, sports medicine or a related field is preferred.
A minimum of one year of work experience is required. Divison I experience is desirable.
Three or more years of experience as certified athletic trainer is preferred. Previous experience with soccer is highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing, especially through e-mail. A strong customer service orientation is essential.
Candidate must possess strong organizational, planning and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks. A strong focus on attention to detail is essential.
Candidate must demonstrate strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, analyze problems and devise solutions.
Candidate must possess basic skills of Microsoft Office programs i.e. Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to learn and utilize injury documentation and insurance tracking software is essential.
NATA certification required. Texas state licensure or eligibility.
First Aid, CPR, and AED Certified
Physical and Environmental Demands:
- Bend, squat, stand, crawl, climb
- Walk for long distances
- Reach above shoulders
- Handle object (dexterity)
- Push/pull, kneel
- Carry/lift over 50lbs.
- Sit for long periods of time
