Duties
- Prepare and submit insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring all billing information is precise and complete
- Review medical records and documentation to verify proper coding, including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes
- Ensure proper application of ICD coding standards for accurate diagnosis classification
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly, communicating with insurance companies to resolve discrepancies
- Collaborate with medical office staff to gather necessary documentation and clarify billing details
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, claim submissions, adjustments, and collections
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding regulations and insurance policies to ensure ongoing compliance
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing with a solid understanding of medical terminology and records management
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for billing and documentation processes
- Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding standards, and DRG classifications
- Experience with medical collection processes and resolving claim denials efficiently
- Ability to interpret complex insurance policies and explain billing procedures clearly
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all submissions
- Prior experience working in a medical office environment is preferred
