Summary
Operates conventional, special purpose, and computer numerically controlled (CNC) mills, lathes, drill presses and sawing machines to cut various metallic and nonmetallic parts. Operates secondary equipment such as overhead cranes, sanders and grinders as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform the job successfully, an individual must satisfy the following duties and responsibilities:
- Reads process sheets, blueprints, drawings and/or sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.
- Verifies that the correct program and version is loaded in machine tool.
- Mounts work piece between centers, in chuck, or to faceplate.
- Selects and installs tooling in tool posts, turrets or indexing heads, and automatic tool change magazine, in sequence required.
- Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheets, prints and other instructions to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-or-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications utilizing basic inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, depth gauge, etc).
- Studies job packet and organizes materials for next run during automatic machine controlled cycles to shorten changeover time.
- Operates another machine tool during machine controlled machining cycles when necessary.
- Marks parts as required per process specifications (Includes stamping & dot penning, etc.)
- Machines metallic and nonmetallic materials.
- Perform daily machine maintenance such as lubrication points, oil changes, and tightening of bolts.
- Works under immediate supervision.
- Other duties that may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to meet certain certifications in field and to have at least 1-2 years of experience. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and distance. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
