Position Summary
Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm headquartered in Nashville, TN is seeking a full-time Senior Accountant to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, in a fast-paced work environment.
The Senior Accountant is a highly-motivated individual responsible for the timely and accurate financial reporting of assigned properties. Responsibilities include performing month-end close, reconciliation of accounts on a monthly basis, posting journal entries, completing monthly bank reconciliations, reviewing final product, and other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Perform monthly full-cycle accounting functions for multiple Multi-Family properties including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and monitoring/reviewing receivables and
- Review and maintain cash balances for assigned Must submit funding requests as necessary and approve bill payments.
- Ensure timely payment of real estate
- Initiate and manage coordinating accounting duties with operations personnel (i.e. portfolio management, asset management, community and property/general managers) and third parties (i.e. partners, vendors, banking institutions, etc.)
- Provide assistance to Community Managers with coding invoices and reconciling tenant ledgers, when necessary.
- Handle fixed asset accounting functions and manage depreciation schedules, as
- Support the Accounting Manager by serving as a first level reviewer for monthly financial packets, and other reports as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical and organizational skills required, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Excellent time management skills, drive to take initiative, use of good judgment, strong sense of urgency and attention to detail to carry multiple projects through to completion
- Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal professionally with clients, vendors, and co-workers through email, on the phone and in person
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel
- Ability to keep sensitive information highly confidential
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work and ask for further clarification when necessary
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, with strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual basis accounting and financial reporting
- Minimum 2-3 years of accounting experience with relevant construction or real estate experience helpful
- Yardi preferred
Preferred Education and Experience
- CPA license considered a strong plus
- Public accounting experience preferred
