Description

We are seeking a dynamic and high-energy professional to join the faculty and staff of the Public Health Program by serving as the MPH Coordinator at the School of Human Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The successful candidate will contribute to the University’s mission of excellence in teaching, advising, and related activities. This is a term, 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will be hired as an Assistant Lecturer with a Master's degree or as an Assistant Professor of Practice with a Ph.D.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Examples of Duties

  • Mediate between the SIU MPH program and the academic partnership program. Work to structure the program curriculum to offer required courses every semester to accommodate rolling student admissions.
  • Advise students in the MPH program, including PhD/MPH and MD/MPH degree options.
  • Prepare MPH students for placement in field experience settings through conducting a for-credit seminar (PH 507).
  • Assist MPH students in securing and negotiating field placements, including development and approval of MOUs; oversee evaluation of student performance in field settings, including capstone courses (PH 599A, 599B, 599C); and monitor and assess preceptor performance.
  • Serve as the principal liaison between the Public Health Program and multiple healthy community coalitions in the region. ·
  • Oversee and monitor the application process to MPH-related programs through SLATE, coordinating correspondence among the MPH Program, the Graduate School, and the applicants as needed; preparing applications for review by the MPH Program faculty committee.
  • Monitor students' progress toward degree, negotiating academic issues, approving field placement and capstone project requirements, and clearing persons for graduation.
  • Provide career counseling to MPH program enrollees throughout the course of their academic program.
  • Monitor, review, update, and replace information on the MPH Program’s website.
  • Assess public health workforce development needs and translate them into unit-sponsored continuing education activities in alignment with Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation requirements.
  • Lead collection and monitoring of accreditation and annual reporting data (e.g., admissions, student performance, graduation rates, employment outcomes), and serve as primary liaison with the accrediting body for updates and faculty communication.
  • Ensure the MPH Program’s compliance with accreditation standards, requirements, and competencies.
  • Carry out other MPH Program duties as assigned or directed.
  • Support and positively contribute to SIU’s mission of student success and retention through actions and responsibilities within this role.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a Master of Public Health (MPH) OR a PhD in a public health related field, and at least two years work experience in public health (academic or public setting).

Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching, advising, and supervisory experience—particularly at the graduate level—as well as experience assigning, mentoring, and evaluating students in field placement settings. Familiarity with public health–related settings in the region is preferred.
