Southern Illinois Piping Contractors LLC (SIPC) is a union mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC contracting firm with over 30 years of consistent project delivery across commercial, industrial, and institutional markets throughout Illinois. We are expanding our geographic footprint across the state and are seeking an experienced business development professional to drive that growth.
Position Overview
The Business Development Representative is a field-based, statewide role responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing mechanical and plumbing contracting opportunities across Illinois. This position requires consistent travel and a disciplined, relationship-driven approach to business development within the commercial and industrial construction market.
Estimating, project execution, and field supervision are managed internally. The primary objective of this role is the origination and execution of signed contracts on behalf of SIPC.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain active relationships with general contractors, construction managers, facility owners, and institutional clients across assigned Illinois markets
- Identify and qualify mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC contracting opportunities through direct outreach, industry bid platforms, and professional networks
- Represent SIPC at pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client presentations across the state
- Coordinate with internal estimating to ensure accurate and timely bid submissions on qualified opportunities
- Maintain a comprehensive and current opportunity pipeline within HubSpot CRM
- Deliver a written pipeline report to leadership every Monday detailing active pursuits, bid dates, anticipated close timelines, and next steps
- Uphold SIPC's professional standards and reputation in every client and contractor interaction
Position Boundaries
- This role does not carry independent authority to price, quote, or commit SIPC resources
- This role does not include project management or field supervision responsibilities
- This is not a remote-only position, consistent field presence across Illinois markets is required
Qualifications
- Minimum five years of experience in commercial or industrial construction in a project management, superintendent, owner's representative, or related capacity
- Demonstrated relationships with general contractors, construction managers, or facility owners across Illinois markets
- Working knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, or HVAC construction scopes and how they are awarded within the GC and owner-direct channels
- Familiarity with union construction practices and signatory contractor operations
- Proficiency with CRM platforms; HubSpot experience preferred
- Ability to travel extensively throughout Illinois with occasional overnight requirements
- Exceptional communication, relationship management, and professional presentation skills
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary commences upon execution of the first signed contract originated by this position
- Performance bonus of 0.75% to 1.0% of contract value awarded at substantial completion of each project originated by this role
