Position Summary
Serves as the contact for public and commercial waste haulers at Southern Idaho Solid Waste facilities; completes paperwork for waste loads, checks and documents loads, and ensures the safety of drivers and other employees through observation of safety rules and regulations. Inspects and directs every load to the accurate disposal area. Accepts cash, returns accurate change, operates a computerized solid waste tracking program that quantifies incoming wastes by type, weight, and hauler. Maintains daily records and posts transactions. The Scale Attendant has the authority to communicate directly with public and private waste haulers and grade inbound material within the policy established by SISW. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Principal Responsibilities
- Determine origin, weight or volume of each incoming load of waste and enter disposal activity into a data base.
- Calculate and collect disposal fees.
- Provide information to the public regarding transfer station site activities and services provided by SISW in a courteous and helpful manner.
- Identify acceptable wastes and direct traffic to the proper disposal area.
- Visually inspect customers’ material loads to insure compliance with SISW permits, operation plan and waste acceptance policies.
- Become familiar with all SISW acceptance policies for all materials accepted for final disposal.
- Perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of office and/or cash handling experience
- Microsoft Office – must be able to use as required by the job.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
