The Southern Humboldt Joint Unified School District crosses two counties, Mendocino and Humboldt, in the heart of the redwoods, extending from remote, mountain areas, to the Eel and Mattole River valleys, to Kings Range and out to the Lost Coast of the Pacific Ocean. The school district encompasses an area of approximately 773 square miles. Employment in Southern Humboldt and Northern Mendocino counties includes tourism, commercial fishing, timber, agriculture, ranching, the school district, the community hospital, and state agencies. The Southern Humboldt Joint Unified School District unified in 1948, combining nineteen separate school districts. Job Summary
Under general direction, to assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to a school site instrumental music program; to serve as a resource concerning instrumental and general music instruction; to instruct and train orchestra, bands, dance bands in musicianship and performance activities; and to do other related functions as directed.
Requirements / Qualifications
A Single Subject Teaching Credential in Music is preferred. Allowances may be made for select candidates who have demonstrated subject matter competency through the CSET Music examinations, an undergraduate degree in Music, or an Emergency Credential with plans towards obtaining a Single Subject Credential in Music. Also accepting applications from candidates with current CTE Music Credentials or with plans towards obtaining a CTE Music Credential. The teacher will be expected to provide students of varying abilities with instruction in both music theory and performance.
