POSITION SUMMARY:
The Counselor in Training (CIT) Director will provide overall leadership and management across the CIT Program. The CIT Director is responsible for training, scheduling, managing and evaluating both Junior (JR) and Senior (SR) CIT’s. The CIT Directors also serve as a member of the senior staff team and is charged with high level leadership across the entire camp operation. CIT Directors are expected to lead by example and inspire those around them.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Responsible for supervision of all JR and SR CIT’s.
• Responsible for evaluating CIT’s; regular verbal check-ins and two formal written coaching cards.
• Responsible for cabin and activity scheduling of all CIT’s.
• Conducts check-in meetings at the start and end of each day for all CIT’s.
• Conducts week long training for all CIT’s which mirrors many aspects of staff training.
• Provides weekly training sessions to CIT’s to ensure continuous education throughout the program.
• Coordinates special trainings (Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR, Ropes, Archery) with department leaders.
• Ensures systems are in place to gain feedback from all staff on CIT performance.
• Ensures evaluations and recommendations are completed in a timely manner and submitted to the Camp Director/Assistant
Camp Director prior to the end of session six.
• Ability to remain calm during an emergency. Ensures CIT’s are timely and accurate during drills.
• Assist with special events and summer fundraising campaigns.
• Builds positive relationships with CIT’s, campers, parents, caregivers, counselors and other senior staff to leverage Camp
Lincoln’s position and provide a high level experience to all.
• Provides effective and timely communication to the Camp Director/Assistant Director.

Requirements
• Successfully embrace Camp Lincoln’s spirit and follow the Core Values – Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
• Minimum of 3 years leadership and childcare experience.
• A passion for leadership development and coaching.
• Teaching, facilitating, teambuilding experience preferred.
• Supervisory and staff development experience.
• Administrative experience; ability to communicate verbally (in-person and on phone) and in writing is essential.
• Strong working knowledge of computers and all common programs such as Word and Excel.
• Ability to effectively delegate responsibilities to others and support them in their endeavors as necessary.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Maintain updated certifications of the job (CPR and First Aid/AED).
• Must be able to communicate in a professional manner.
• Must have a positive attitude, be able to multi-task, and manage priorities.
• Obtain New Staff Orientation within 30 days of hire, including child abuse prevention and blood-borne pathogen training.
• Agree to state criminal background checks.
• Must sign the Voluntary Disclosure statement.
• Must sign and demonstrate the Southern District YMCA Code of Conduct.
• Must sign and abide by The Y’s Personnel Policy.
• Must be at least 16 years old before starting.
• Must attend all summer staff meetings (first Thursday evenings of our two week sessions) and Family Nights (second Thursday evenings of our two week sessions).
• Be eager and willing to work with campers 5 – 15 years old and effectively communicate needs to appropriate supervisors.
