Inspector - Substation Construction - Switchboard Wiring
Location: Reports out of Forest Park, GA - however successful candidate can live anywhere in the state of Georgia
Position Level: Non-Exempt Levels 8-9
JOB SUMMARY
Plan, coordinate, monitor and inspect control wiring activities performed by contract personnel for GPC transmission capital projects. Attend meetings held by project management to obtain information and scope of projects assigned to contract personnel. Work with Substation Construction Field Managers, Substation Inspectors, Substation Control Engineering & Design, Transmission Maintenance Centers, System Operations, Generation, Procurement, Project Management, and Physical Construction groups to ensure projects are completed on schedule. Provide day-to-day feedback and updates to the switchboard construction field manager regarding work status and job performance of contract personnel. Perform Quality Value Assessments (QVA) on contract personnel to ensure quality performance.
This position will not give work direction to contract personnel but will be responsible for ensuring the work accomplished by contract personnel meets all construction standards and specifications set forth by Georgia Power Company.
Position has statewide responsibilities and frequent overnight travel (at least 85% of the time) within the state of Georgia is required. Position may require after-hour commitment to fulfill job responsibilities during normal work week and occasional weekends.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience Requirements:
Switchboard Wiring experience
Minimum of 10 years of Switchboard Wiring experience is preferred
Leadership abilities demonstrated and project oversight experience is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Read and understand electrical diagrams required
In-depth knowledge of substation control wiring and installation work (relay panels, breakers, transformers, control houses)
Understanding of SCS and Ga. Power's electrical control wiring design standards
Knowledge of Transmission Substation Construction methods, practices, techniques and equipment utilized
Knowledge of the Georgia ITS Electric Operating Procedure (i.e. “Redbook”)
Knowledge of OSHA and substation construction safety work practices required
Effective oral and written communication skills
Good decisions making abilities for the responsibility of this position
Competent computer skills with Outlook, Excel, Word. I-Pad use will be required
Ability to multitask and manage multiple deadlines
Willingness to take personal responsibility for projects and assignments

Job Responsibilities:
Attend meetings held by project management to obtain information and scope of projects assigned to contract personnel
Maintain administrative requirements of the Inspector position (Daily Logs, Project Conditions Report, Time Keeping, Expense Reports, Engineering Reviews, Final Inspections and QVA’s)
Verify materials are accounted for and installed correctly by contract personnel
Assist with scheduling and material deliveries needed for contractor to successfully complete project
Must be available to work assigned storm duty, which could include evenings, weekends, holidays and overnight travel
Ensure projects are completed safely and workmanship is of the highest quality
Monitor activities of multiple contract personnel on capital projects
Report on status of projects back to construction field manager
Ensure documentation of time is correct when submitted for payment
Distinguish differences between GPC and contractor safety rules
Perform NESC inspections as they pertain to switchboard and construction
