Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients.
- Initiate and document appropriate interventions; evaluate and record patient/family responses; prescribe therapies as indicated.
- Perform clinical procedures after appropriate training.
- Assess patient and family needs and provide education on treatment and wellness.
- Promote wellness and recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
- Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice.
- Maintain knowledge of reimbursement procedures and documentation requirements.
- Complete patient charge capture and medical record documentation in a timely manner.
- Provide case management for patients and families, including limited knowledge of community resources.
- May promote and provide staff education.
- Responsibilities may include rounding at affiliated hospitals and handling weekend or after-hour calls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program.
- Entry-level position requiring 0–3 years post-MSN experience, preferably in oncology.
- Current RN state licensure and registration with the State Board of Nursing.
- Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
OR
Physician Assistant
- Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current NCCPA certification.
- Entry-level position requiring 0–3 years of experience, preferably in oncology.
- Current state license as a Physician Assistant.
- Current BLS/CPR certification required.
OR
Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and completion of a Clinical Nurse Specialist program.
- Entry-level position requiring 0–3 years post-MSN experience, preferably in oncology.
- Current RN state licensure and registration with the State Board of Nursing.
- Current state licensure as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
- Current BLS/CPR certification required.
Physical Demands
- Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 40 lbs.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Work Environment
- Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medical preparations common to oncology/hematology clinic settings.
