Part-Time Medical Scribe / Finalizer (Weekends Only)
Schedule: Saturday & Sunday
Location: El Monte Clinic
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Part-Time Medical Scribe / Finalizer to support our physicians during weekend clinic operations. This role focuses on accurate and timely medical documentation, chart completion, and administrative support to improve provider productivity and patient care. The Finalizer works under the direction of the physicians and clinic leadership.
This position is ideal for Medical Assistants with strong documentation skills who thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Essential Functions
Clinical Documentation & Chart Finalization
- Assist physicians with real-time documentation of patient encounters (electronic and/or paper)
- Accurately record patient history, review of systems, physical exams, assessments, plans, and progress notes
- Document procedures, admissions, transfers, discharges, and follow-up plans
- Prepare, assemble, and finalize medical records/charts for physician review and authentication
- Monitor charts to ensure timely completion of all required elements (labs, diagnostics, ECGs, impressions, diagnoses, discharge plans, signatures)
- Return incomplete charts to physicians as needed
Patient & Provider Support
- Enter patient rooms with physicians during visits to capture documentation
- Communicate normal and abnormal lab results to patients as directed by the Clinic Manager
- Assist with clerical and administrative tasks to support clinic workflow and provider efficiency
- Assist with training new Finalizers as assigned
Compliance & Confidentiality
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
- Secure and safeguard medical records and patient information
- Adhere to professional standards, clinic policies, and federal, state, and local regulations, including Joint Commission standards
Education & Experience
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Training Program
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, diagnostics, pharmacology, and treatment plans
- Ability to accurately transcribe and expand medical abbreviations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, data entry, and professional email communication
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
Certification & Licensure
- Medical Assistant Certificate – Required
- Associate Degree – Preferred
Work Environment
- Fast-paced outpatient medical office
- Frequent interaction with providers, staff, patients, insurance companies, and external agencies
- Environmentally controlled clinical setting with occasional high-pressure situations
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting, typing, writing, speaking, and computer use
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds
- Use of standard office and medical equipment (computer, keyboard, phone, copier, fax)
