Position Overview
The Southern California Drone Film Festival and Fullerton Drone Lab are looking for energetic and self-driven Marketing/Communications/Events Interns to assist with outreach, publicity, and event management. This internship provides practical experience in marketing, social media, public relations, and event planning, along with exposure to advanced drone and film technology industries.

Responsibilities
Marketing
- Assist with researching sponsors and filmmakers to compile target contact lists.
- Conduct market analysis and research on trends in the film, drone, and emerging tech industries.
- Assist with social media outreach and engagement campaigns across various platforms.
- Design, pitch, and implement new social media campaign ideas.
- Contribute to creating marketing materials such as mock-ups, email campaigns, newsletters, and branded content.
- Track industry news and trends to find timely promotional opportunities.
Public Relations & Communications
- Help develop publicity campaigns to promote the festival and Drone Lab programs.
- Research and build relationships with local and regional media outlets to gain coverage.
- Assist in monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of campaigns and audience responses.
- Draft press releases, blog posts, and announcements for events.
- Maintain and update databases and customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
Event Planning & Coordination
- Assist with planning the Southern California Drone Film Festival and associated Fullerton Drone Lab community events.
- Coordinate with vendors, sponsors, and community partners.
- Provide input and creative ideas to enhance attendee experience.
- Assist with event logistics, including set-up, registration, hosting, and follow-up.
- Record events using photography, social media updates, and after-action reports.
Qualifications
- Current student or recent graduate in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Event Management, Film, or related field.
- Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with major social media platforms (Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube).
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other design tools a plus.
- Enthusiasm for drones, film/media, or emerging technology industries preferred.
Training
Interns will undergo 1–2 weeks of remote training on festival operations, market positioning, and organizational policies and procedures to ensure preparedness before interacting with external audiences.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the internship, interns will be able to:
- Conduct market research and analyze industry trends in film and drone technology.
- Develop and evaluate digital marketing and social media campaigns.
- Design basic publicity and promotional campaigns for events.
- Manage contact databases and CRM systems for sponsor and filmmaker outreach.
- Coordinate with vendors, sponsors, and partners to support event planning.
- Gain hands-on experience in festival/event operations, marketing strategy, and community engagement.
Compensation & Commitment
- This is an unpaid/academic credit internship (with potential for stipends depending on funding).
- Approximately 8–12 hours per week, flexible schedule.
- Must be available for on-site participation during festival and major event dates.
