Position Title: School Counselor
Reports To: Principal
Location: Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School, Memphis, TN
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary:
Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School is seeking a compassionate, licensed School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of our K-5 scholars. The School Counselor will provide individual and group counseling, collaborate with teachers and families, and develop programs that foster a positive, inclusive school climate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Develop and implement comprehensive counseling programs aligned with state standards and best practices.
- Support teachers and staff in addressing student behavioral and emotional concerns.
- Collaborate with parents and guardians to support student success and well-being.
- Conduct crisis intervention and provide appropriate referrals when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including progress reports and intervention plans.
- Lead social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives and school-wide programs.
- Participate in professional development and contribute to the school’s continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field.
- Current Tennessee School Counselor License or eligibility for licensure.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
- Strong knowledge of social-emotional learning, counseling techniques, and child development.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position based on a standard school calendar.
- Work is primarily in a classroom and office environment, with frequent interaction with students, staff, and families.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and move about the school environment as needed.
- Must be able to respond to student needs quickly and safely.
