Field Service Technician – Agricultural Equipment

Location: Batesville, MS | Classification: Hourly | Reports to: Service Manager

Why Join Southern Application Management?

Southern Application Management, founded in 2011, is a proud dealer of Apache self-propelled sprayer-rugged, reliable, and built for the future of farming. Since joining the EXEL Industries family in 2016, we’ve continued to grow while keeping our local, team-focused culture.

When you join our team, you’ll enjoy:

  • A culture that empowers you – problem-solving, innovation, and continuous learning are encouraged and rewarded.
  • Career growth – hands-on training with cutting-edge agricultural equipment and precision ag technology.
  • Work-life balance – we work hard during the season, but we also value time for family and life outside of work.

What You’ll Do

As a Field Service Technician, you’ll be the go-to expert for farmers who depend on their equipment. You’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain Apache sprayers and other agricultural machinery both in our Batesville shop and at customer sites (about 70% travel). You’ll represent Southern Application Management in the field, ensuring customers can keep their operations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on agricultural equipment.
  • Travel to customer sites for field service (mostly within MS, occasionally overnights).
  • Provide customer support, training, and product demonstrations alongside sales staff.
  • Learn and support precision ag systems and technology.
  • Accurately track parts, labor, mileage, and service reports.
  • Maintain company tools, vehicles, and facilities in top condition.
  • Represent Southern Application Management professionally with customers.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is motivated, mechanically skilled, and thrives in a customer-facing role.

Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of hands-on repair experience (ag equipment, heavy equipment, diesel, industrial maintenance, or related fields).
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Strong communication skills—calm under pressure and customer-focused.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, willingness to learn service software).
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Own or be willing to purchase a basic mechanic’s tool set (specialty tools provided).
  • Air conditioning certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or college certificate preferred.

Work Schedule & Travel

  • Off-season: 40–50 hours/week, Monday–Friday.
  • Peak season: 60–70 hours/week, including some Saturdays and holidays. Sundays are avoided whenever possible.
  • Travel: travel throughout Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, and Southern Missouri; occasional overnights (1–2 nights at a time). Training may require 1–2 weeks of travel per year.

Work Environment

This role combines shop and field work. Expect to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting 50 lbs., bending, standing, and working with tools daily.

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • Be part of a growing company in a global network of agricultural innovators.
  • Get hands-on with advanced sprayers and precision ag technology.
  • Work with a supportive team that values respect, excellence, and pride in their craft.
  • Opportunities for ongoing training and career development.
