Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
General
- Observe and enforce all store rules and university policies;
- Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance and adhere to the store’s dress policy;
- Observe shift operating hours at all times as scheduled or assigned by the store manager;
- Be able to multi-task well, especially in fast-paced environments/situations;
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations throughout the store;
- Follow the FM’s training in the receiving, unloading, handling and stocking of merchandise from any vendor:
- Ensure that all items are accurately received and every respective invoice reflects all SKUs and quantities listed
- Ensure accurate billing and pricing
- Routinely check product to confirm quality, count and condition
- Enforce receiving procedure according to company policy
- Inform respective department heads of received inaccurate and/or damaged items
- Professionally handle customer complaints and provide them with satisfaction when possible;
- Ensure favorable store image to customers by maintaining a clean, attractive and friendly store;
- Maintain good communications with all store employees;
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service;
- Effectively and efficiently run a cash register when assigned after sufficient training;
- Perform other reasonable duties and assignments as directed.
- The employee will be assigned a weekly schedule, which is expected to be followed when posted. The employee’s normal schedule will be the below posted schedule, unless the employee and management come to a different mutual schedule agreement*:
- -Sunday, 8:30a – 6:30p
- -Monday, 9:00a – 5:00p
- -Tuesday, 9:00a – 1:00p
- -Thursday, 9:00a – 4:00p
- The Sunday shift requires the employee to be the primary manager-on-duty. The employee will be adequately trained so they can make logical decisions needed for store operations, and that keep the physical store, its employees, customers, the store’s image, and SAU in a positive light as much as possible.
Merchandising
- Physically stock store shelves and other displays, and help keep product faced at all times according to department standards;
- Keep merchandise rotated in accordance with store policy and product code dates, pull all expired merchandise, and inform/assist the FM of any situations that need attention;
- Ensure approved procedures are followed for receiving product, price marking and restocking to ensure quality protection and product rotation;
- Assist with performing daily, weekly and semi-yearly inventory related tasks.
Housekeeping
- Maintain cleanliness in all assigned areas (sales floor, backstock and receiving, front offices, restrooms, foyer, front of store, sidewalks & eating areas) and physically perform all assigned cleaning/sanitizing procedures in each area;
- Promptly answer housekeeping calls and handle areas needing attention.
Maintenance and Safety
- Follow protocols to emergencies or potential safety hazards such as spills, broken glass or plastic containers that contain liquid products;
- Keep watch for failures in refrigeration equipment during regularly assigned tasks;
- Ensure that all equipment used in the department is maintained in good working order.
Security
- Ensure that receiving policies and procedures are complied with to protect store assets;
- Open and close the store when scheduled to keep staff and store assets safe and secure;
- Observe security standards by staying alert and being aware of customer actions and behavior;
- Notify management or security and call attention to any abnormal behavior noted;
- Maintain effective security standards and procedures for all areas within the store.

Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma or GED; College experience is strongly preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of retail experience is preferred, specifically with merchandising and/or inventory management.
- Must possess the math skills necessary to verify vendor invoice charges and counts;
- Ability to hear, speak, and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones and to be able to communicate effectively with customers, department employees, the store’s co-workers, visitors and sales representatives;
- Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency in order to:
- read and understand company handbooks, policies and procedures;
- be able to compose and write information notices or bulletins to staff;
- read and understand other written job-related documents including postings on company bulletin boards;
- Ability to compose and write reports and business correspondence including effective departmental memos, employee corrective action notices and postings.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in circumstances where only limited standardization may exist;
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in diagram, oral, schedule or written form.
- Be able to quickly learn/follow the operations and nature of assigned departmental duties;
- Be able to supervise student employees effectively, make sure they stay on task, and be able to set a strong example in regards to customer service, customer hospitality, and good work ethic;
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs with relative ease;
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use the hands to handle, finger or feel objects, tools or controls;
- The employee must frequently walk, talk or hear, and reach with the hands and arms and occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel;
- Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus including sufficient visual acuity to check accounting reports, invoices, contracts and other written documents;
- Be able to climb a ladder to retrieve inaccessible items for customers located above freezer cases or from stockrooms and other storage areas, and access the roof via a ladder;
- Have sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond to fire or other emergencies such as cleanup requests (due to accidental spills or breakage of containers having liquid contents), shoplifting and other security assistance requests, customer accidents, etc;
- Be able to perform all duties and responsibilities in an efficient and satisfactory manner that meets the minimum standards for volume, productivity, accuracy, cleanliness, harmony, safety and profitability established by the employer;
- The work environment includes occasional exposure to, in or around refrigerated and freezer storage areas, as well as higher temperature and humid areas, such as in the deli, and areas where a wet floor is common, such as around the automatic industrial dishwasher;
- Typically, the noise level in the work environment is moderate, however, on occasion, it can be somewhat noisy when power tools, deli equipment, or facility equipment are in use;
- Access to break areas, storage areas, offices and employee restrooms requires ascending and descending a flight of stairs.
