Activities/Nutrition Driver (as needed)

Employment Status: Part-Time. Non-Exempt

Reports To: Emery County Aging Program Manager

Wage Allocation: $ 13.50 / hour

Job Summary

The Senior Center Activities Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of senior citizens to and from the senior center and various scheduled community activities and day trips. This role ensures that all participants are transported in a safe, timely, and professional manner while maintaining the integrity and cleanliness of county vehicles. The driver serves as a key point of contact for seniors, requiring a sympathetic and professional demeanor.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate county vehicles to transport seniors to the center, special events, and excursions. Must make visual or audible contact with each senior during pickups and drop-offs to ensure their safety.
  • Model professional behavior, maintain open communication channels, and actively discourage gossip within the center environment.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checking oil, washer fluid, and tire pressure. Responsible for fueling and ensuring heating and cooling systems are functional.
  • Report any major vehicle maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  • Daily clean out vehicles and prepare for next days use. Deep clean vehicles, including but not limited to vacuum, interior wipe down, disinfect and exterior wash.
  • Maintain accurate logs of mileage, passenger counts, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Provide safe physical assistance to seniors, including those with disabilities, as they board and exit the vehicle.
  • Adhere to strict hygiene standards, including regular hand washing and wearing clean attire (free of pet hair or contaminants).
  • Assist seniors with problems relating to transportation services and report any safety concerns regarding clients to the Program Manager.
  • Manage the daily collection of donation funds, ensuring all money is delivered to the Activities Coordinator.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to learn and navigate complex routes within the designated region and recognize potential mechanical issues with vehicles.
  • The ability to recognize potential safety risks and uphold a proactive, safety-first mindset is essential.
  • Possess a sincere passion for interacting with the elderly and show compassion regarding the difficulties experienced by homebound individuals.
  • Excellent oral communication skills to convey instructions clearly and interact tactfully with a diverse population.
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively without direct supervision.
  • Computer proficiency, including the ability to use specialized software for communication and reporting.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; experience in delivery or passenger driving is preferred.
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License with a clean driving record with no alcohol or drug-related moving violations.
  • Must obtain and maintain annual CPR and First Aid certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods and assist seniors with physical disabilities.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and move objects or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Average visual acuity necessary for vehicle operation and the ability to hear normal conversations in busy environments.
  • Work is performed both inside the center and outside in various weather conditions.
