JOB SUMMARY

The Strategic Communications Coordinators will serve as the key drivers of strategic planning and content development for all communication pieces produced on behalf of the Office of the President at Southeastern University. Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff, this role is responsible for generating strategic ideas, identifying key topics, and shaping the overall direction for communication pieces, including articles, speeches, social media content, and internal communications. The Coordinator will collaborate closely with the President’s Office and work alongside the communications team to ensure all content aligns with the university’s mission, the president’s voice, and organizational priorities. This individual will oversee the ideation process, and aid in the creation of high-quality deliverables that effectively communicate the president’s vision and strategic initiatives.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Chief of Staff within the Media Relations & Communications Department

Supervisory Responsibility: N/A

Indirect Supervisory Responsibility: N/A

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Written Content Creation: This position will be responsible for developing ideas and outlines for written articles for the President. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Fox and News Max articles
    • Forbes articles
    • Forbes Panel responses
    • Influence articles
  • Verbal Content Creation: This position will be responsible for developing scripts and speeches for the President’s office when needed. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Word of the Year/Chapel messages
    • Miscellaneous Devotionals
    • Academic and leadership lessons and lectures
  • Social Media: This Position will be responsible for managing and growing all social media platforms for the President. Collaboration with university social media accounts will be essential. This includes but is not limited to:
    • X Posts
    • Podcast scripting
  • Student Worker Team Development: A key function of this position will be working alongside the Chief of Staff to develop and lead a small team of student workers. Student worker team will handle operations including but not limited to:
    • Formatting blogs, inside SEU articles, newsletters, and other media
    • Planning and writing blogs, newsletters, X posts, and leadership articles
    • Editing and uploading podcasts
  • Current Events Research: A crucial function of this position is to stay up to date with the most important current events happening in the country and world. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Political events, elections, inaugurations, negotiations, policy changes, bill voting, etc.
    • Natural disasters, national tragedies, etc.
    • Major sporting events
    • Other notable events

ADDITIONAL/NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

EDUCATION

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing, or other related field.

Preferred Education:

Master's in Business Administration, Communications

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE

Required:

A minimum of 3 Years of related work in a professional setting

Preferred:

A minimum of 5 Years - Communications/Writing or Project Management, preferably in higher education.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

TRAINING

All new hires and employees transferring into a new position will have a 90-day probationary period within which to learn the functions of the job and to be evaluated. Following the probationary period, the employee can transition to regular status, have the probationary period extended in order to receive more training, or employment can be terminated. Required compliance training is as follows:

  • Emergency Employees report for or must remain at work in emergency situations. Dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to this position, unless instructed otherwise by your direct supervisor or a member of the Leadership Team.

SCREENING

All full-time positions at SEU are deemed security-sensitive and require background checks. Employees required to drive their own personal vehicle, a rental car or an SEU vehicle in performance of their duties must pass an MVR records check and meet the requirements of the University’s insurance carrier in order to meet the requirements of the position.
