The Director of Operations utilizes strong leadership, operational expertise, customer service, and decision-making skills to drive performance, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Essential Functions
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for daily regional operations
- Ensure operational efficiency, safety compliance, and adherence to company SOPs
- Oversee trench equipment maintenance and inventory management
- Manage rental inventory levels and approve requisitions to maintain adequate fleet availability
- Monitor and verify account status while collaborating with the Credit Department as needed
- Oversee weekly cycle counts of the rental fleet and ensure inventory accuracy
- Review outgoing contracts for accuracy, including rates, delivery fees, and equipment numbers
- Oversee and direct regional logistics and operational workflows
- Ensure the overall appearance, condition, and safety of the facility are maintained at all times
- Lead recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and retention initiatives for branch personnel
- Oversee employee timecards, PTO approvals, performance management, and recognition programs
- Develop and mentor team members to support succession planning and talent growth
- Maintain a strong understanding of P&L performance, budgeting, and financial controls
- Analyze operational metrics and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and profitability
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of operational and financial reports
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and customer service excellence
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of:
- All aspects of business operations and market conditions
- Safety regulations regarding products, equipment use, and facility operations
- Proper use and operation of trench safety equipment
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, technical certification, or minimum of 5 years of management experience in the trench safety industry preferred
- Proven leadership experience in operations or branch management
- Strong PC proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office applications
- Valid Driver’s License
- Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Directly supervise branch operations personnel and department staff
- Responsible for employee development, coaching, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions
- Combination of office, shop, and yard settings
- Regular exposure to diesel engines, trench/heavy equipment, and mechanical tools
- Noise levels may be high; hearing protection may be required
- Exposure to diesel fumes, lubricants, and shop-related chemicals
- Occasional lifting, bending, and walking throughout the facility
- Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in shop and yard environments
- Variable temperatures depending on season and indoor/outdoor exposure
- Fast-paced, hands-on environment requiring leadership and adaptability
- Standard business hours with occasional extended hours or weekend oversight
- Regular collaboration with technicians, service advisors, rental staff, and customers
- Required throughout the region based on business needs
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout office, shop, and yard areas
- Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching to inspect equipment or assist technicians
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds on occasion
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and operating equipment
- Visual and auditory ability required to read documents and communicate effectively
- Occasional exposure to outdoor elements such as heat, cold, and rain
- Must safely navigate uneven terrain and active equipment environments
- PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, or hearing protection may be required
