Duties
- Prepare and submit medical claims using billing software, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications.
- Review patient medical records and documentation to accurately assign ICD coding and ensure proper billing procedures are followed.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, working closely with insurance companies and patients to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain detailed records of billing transactions, adjustments, and payments within electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software platforms.
- Communicate clearly with patients regarding their bills, insurance coverage, payment options, and outstanding balances while providing excellent customer service.
- Stay updated on healthcare claims management policies, health insurance regulations, and changes in medical coding standards to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to verify patient information, review medical records for accuracy, and support overall revenue cycle management.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing or healthcare office administration, with familiarity using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), DRG classifications, and healthcare claims management processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel, along with experience using billing software platforms.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, insurance providers, and team members.
- Understanding of health insurance policies, medical records management, and compliance standards related to medical billing.
- Ability to analyze complex billing issues quickly and accurately while maintaining attention to detail.
- Prior experience working in a medical office environment is highly preferred; familiarity with EMR/EHR systems is essential.
