What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineer position at Southeastern Process Equipment & Controls, Inc. (SPEC)?
The Role
You will lead electrical design, build, and commissioning of industrial automation projects—from power distribution and control panels to field wiring, instrumentation, and PLC/HMI programming. You’ll collaborate closely with mechanical and software teams, support factory acceptance tests (FAT), and travel for on‑site installation, calibration, and startup at customer facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical design & panel construction: Create schematics, bills of materials, and panel layouts; specify breakers, contactors, VFDs, safety relays, and instrumentation.
- Automation & controls: Program and integrate PLCs/HMIs; interface with scales, pumps, valves, and sensors used in precision dispensing systems; execute I/O checkout and commissioning.
- Site installation & commissioning: Lead onsite electrical installation, calibration, and system startup; collaborate with customer and GC teams to meet safety and schedule requirements.
- Troubleshooting & service: Diagnose electrical/controls issues, implement corrective actions, and document fixes for future reference.
- Documentation & compliance: Produce drawings, manuals, and test records; follow SPEC safety procedures and OSHA Hazard Communication practices.
- Cross‑functional collaboration: Work with sales, production, and project teams to meet technical and commercial objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years in industrial automation/electrical engineering (manufacturing, machinery, or process equipment).
- Hands‑on experience with PLCs, motor controls, power distribution, instrumentation, and panel wiring.
- Ability to read/create electrical schematics; comfortable with field installation and startup.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and customer‑facing skills.
Preferred Experience
- CAD for electrical design (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical or similar).
- VFDs, servo systems, and industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).

Work Environment & Travel
Work is primarily onsite in our production facility in Denver, NC with periodic travel for installations, service, and commissioning (multi‑day trips as project needs dictate).
