Career Coordinator, Career Services

SUMMARY

The Career Coordinator will support the Executive Director of the Career Services to facilitate employment of Southeastern students enrolled in traditional, online, and micro-credential courses. They will manage the university’s micro-credentialing initiatives. This position will collaborate with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community stakeholders to design, implement, and assess career services to support student and alumni clients of the Career Services Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PRIMARY DUTIES


Coordinate Micro-Credential courses and programs:

  • Research and propose micro-credential courses and programs.
  • Collaborate with micro-credential designers and instructors of to ensure consistency in delivery, thoroughness, assessment, and overall reflection of the university.
  • Provide reporting and analytics for micro-credential programs to monitor progress and success.
  • Collaborate with university marketing team and any other entities at the university, community, and state level to promote micro-credential opportunities offered at Southeastern.
  • Organize tasks for badging and other credentials recognizing completion.


Employer Relations/Career Counseling:

  • Coordinates with faculty to schedule career services content for university classes and organizational meetings.
  • Assist the executive director with coaching SE students and alumni on all areas of career development and career management including, but not limited to, resume writing, cover letters, thank you letters, interviewing skills, job/internship search techniques and networking.

SECONDARY SUPPORT


Career Events:

  • Collaborates with other department and university personnel to provide leaderships and direction in the planning and execution of career related events.
  • Assists the executive director with preparing pre- and post-event analysis including student learning outcomes; makes recommendations for improving services to internal and external constituencies; implements approved changes.
  • Supervises and directs student employees and interns, providing instructional information for career event preparation.


Technology:

  • Assists students in the use of the Career Services software (Handshake) and the on-campus student employment process.
  • Assists the executive director with trainings for Supervisors of Student Employees in the Handshake system.
  • Compiles and distributes information weekly on full-time employment, internships, and part-time employment via e-mail to all interested faculty, staff, students, and alumni.


Administrative:

  • Coordinates recruiting visits with industry, government, and education representatives; schedule interviewing rooms and/or group meeting facilities both in the center and across campus; coordinate special meetings, faculty/employer luncheons and the like.
  • Manages budget for career services. Co-approves purchases and monitors expenditures on a regular basis. Collaborates with executive director to develop annual budget.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves on various university committees as assigned.
  • Evening and weekend attendance at university functions as required.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Career Services & Alumni Relations.

3. Relationships with Others: The employee works effectively and relates well with others including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the University. The employee exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working environment.

4. Safety: Employee works safely, attends safety training offered/required, and follows appropriate safety rules and regulations. In relation to level of NIMs training completed, participates in incident management preparation and performs incident duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in career services, recruiting, sales, higher education, training, human resources, business, education, or related field.
  • Strong computer and technology skills as they relate to the use of social media to drive uses to the career related databases and job posting systems.
  • Exceptional networking, marketing, and communication skills, including excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student and alumni population.
  • Ability to manage confidential information and sensitive situations.
  • Ability to work some nights and/or weekends and travel to Southeastern’s outreach sites as events and programs require.


PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, human resource management, MBA, counseling, professional degree, or related field preferred.
