What are the responsibilities and job description for the REGISTRATION CLERK, 2ND/3RD SHIFT FLEX position at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center?
Basic Function:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Registration and the Registration Supervisor, the Outpatient Registrar will conduct the registration process for all scheduled and “walk-in” outpatients. Specifically, this position gathers all necessary demographic and insurance information. Must verify patient has a valid physician order.
Essential Functions:
- Registers patients who have been referred by a doctor for outpatient services.
- Accepts information for out-patient services and gathers necessary patient information including diagnosis and insurance information.
- Interviews patients in advance whenever possible from the pre-scheduled list.
- Collects billing information when registering patient, and forwards same to Business office.
- Screens for Medicare Medical Necessity and refers to appropriate personnel.
- Obtain pre-certifications when necessary for outpatient testing.
- Make copies of insurance cards and other relevant information for imaging.
- Obtains necessary signatures and consents.
- Inform every patient of patient privacy act.
- A high level of patient centered customer service demonstrated in each individual encounter.
- Properly recording of information to provide accurate records.
- Maintaining a pleasant and courteous attitude during all contact concerning patient accounts and other hospital business.
- Compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Maintaining confidential information according to HIPPA guidelines.
- Proper use of time, equipment and supplies.
- Performing all duties and activities with proper regard for the safety of patients, visitors, fellow associates, professional staff, and the associate.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education and Training: High school graduate or equivalent.
- knowledge of computer and Medical Terminology. Also insurance experience is helpful; particular medical office skills.
- Medical terminology helpful.
- An understanding of basic English, and speech communications important for verbal ability is required in discussing financial and personal matters with patients or their representatives to be clearly understood.
- Numerical ability is required in compiling or reviewing data relating to accounts.
- Clerical ability is required for proper recording of financial data.
- Knowledge of Accounts Receivables system in the hospital computer.

Salary : $21,600 - $27,400
