SOCIL is looking for a full-time disability advocate who is driven to make change, get to know the community, and outreach throughout Southeastern Ohio.
The Independent Living specialist will work with people with disabilities in the Athens, Hocking, Morgan, Vinton, Perry, Jackson, and Meigs County, OH to navigate community resources, advocate for needs, and provide support to achieve goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Responsible for community and consumer outreach in and around Athens County, connecting with new partner agencies and setting up /conducting meetings with other staff
* Assist consumers in developing and achieving goals in areas such as housing, accessibility, benefits, and transportation
* Work with students in schools to provide pre-Employment Transition Services, helping them become ready for employment or further education
* Utilize telephone, social media, Zoom, email or meet with consumers in person as needed. Position will be mostly remote / work from home, with 10-15 meetings per week in community settings.
* Connect consumers with resources to facilitate self-sufficiency including but not limited to transportation, assistive technology, and healthcare
* Provide info to parents for IEP development and guidance at IEP meeting
* Receive phone calls and texts and connect people with information and referral support
* Facilitate workshops and seminars to train individuals in self-advocacy, systems advocacy, and other life skills
* Promote peer supports and peer role models

This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
Qualifications: Candidates should have BA or BS in Social Work, Rehabilitation or related field or equivalent life experience. Experience working with people with disabilities; ability to be self-directed and self-managed; knowledge of community resources; computer, social media, and office equipment knowledge; ability to determine measurable outcomes pertaining to achieving independent living objectives and goals.
