Position Summary
The Financial Coordinator oversees all patient financial processes within the dental practice. This role ensures accurate billing, efficient insurance processing, clear patient communication regarding financial responsibilities, and timely revenue collection. The Financial Coordinator supports smooth office operations by maintaining financial accuracy, compliance, and a positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Financial Management & Insurance Coordination
- Verify dental and medical insurance eligibility, coverage, benefits and authorization requirements.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of insurance plans, coding requirements and reimbursement policies.
- Present treatment plans and communicate financial obligations clearly.
- Provide accurate estimates based on insurance coverage and practice fees.
- Discuss payment options, financing programs, and office policies.
- Collect patient payments.
- Process insurance claims with accurate documentation and coding.
- Maintain detailed accounting of daily charges, payments, and adjustments.
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation.
- Reconcile end-of-day/month/year financial reports.
Administrative Support
- Support front desk tasks as needed (scheduling, check-in/out, phone management).
- Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and dental regulations.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to optimize workflow.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in dental, medical or oral surgery billing/financial coordination.
- Understanding of dental insurance and clinical terminology or willingness to learn.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in financial documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced surgical practice environment
- Knowledge of CDT codes and claim submission standards.
- Experience presenting treatment plans or coordinating patient financing.
- Experience in medical/dental billing.
