Position Summary
The Cosmetology Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality theoretical and practical instruction to students enrolled in the Cosmetology program at Southeastern Health and Wellness Institute – Columbia. This position includes comprehensive instruction in hair, skin, and nail services in accordance with South Carolina state requirements.
This role supports student success through engaging classroom education, hands-on clinical training, and consistent adherence to state, accreditation, and institutional standards. The Cosmetology Instructor serves as a professional role model, upholding excellence in sanitation, compliance, technical skill, and ethical practice while fostering a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.
Schedule: TWO Daytime Shifts; TWO Evening Shifts (Monday-Thursday) - You Choose!
Daytime Hours: 7:30am-5:30pm
Evening Hours: 4:00pm-9:00pm
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction and Curriculum Delivery
- Deliver classroom and clinical instruction in accordance with the approved Cosmetology curriculum and institutional learning outcomes.
- Prepare and implement lesson plans aligned with course objectives, South Carolina LLR requirements, and accreditation standards.
- Provide hands-on demonstrations in haircutting, styling, chemical services, hair coloring, texture services, skincare fundamentals, manicuring, pedicuring, and nail enhancements.
- Supervise students in the clinical learning environment to ensure technical competency, safety, and professionalism.
- Evaluate student performance through written exams, practical assessments, skills evaluations, projects, and daily participation.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, clock hours, grades, evaluations, and student progress.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by administration
- Student Support and Engagement
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and professional learning environment.
- Provide academic guidance, constructive feedback, and mentorship to students.
- Identify students needing additional academic or practical support and collaborate with Campus Leadership on intervention strategies.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and professionalism with all students at all times.
- Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations including South Carolina LLR, institutional policies, and accreditation standards.
- Accurately document attendance, hours, grades, and clinical services in accordance with reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation site visits as required.
- Sanitation and Clinical Oversight
- Enforce strict adherence to sanitation, infection control, chemical safety, and workplace safety protocols at all times.
- Ensure classrooms, dispensaries, and clinic areas are clean, organized, fully stocked, and inspection-ready.
- Educate and hold students accountable for proper sanitation, disinfection procedures, and professional conduct.
- Professional Conduct and Collaboration
- Model professionalism, ethical behavior, leadership, and strong work ethic.
- Attend required faculty meetings, in-service training, and professional development sessions.
- Collaborate with Campus Leadership, Admissions, Student Services, and clinical staff to support enrollment, retention, licensure preparation, and student success.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
