Minimum Requirements
The minimum requirement for this position is a Master’s degree in library science, library and information science, or librarianship from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college/university.

Community college library with supervisory/management experience and a working knowledge of different reference databases and resources.
Primary Functions of Position
The Learning Center Coordinator/Librarian administers the operation and services of the student learning center and library in keeping with the mission of Southeastern Community College. The Learning Center Coordinator/Librarian is responsible for making the Learning Center an inviting and student-focused space where engaging, innovative, and collaborative learning can take place. The Learning Center Coordinator/Librarian ensures a positive user experience, manages the collection with a view towards cutting-edge resources, programming, and outreach. This position is responsible for providing instruction in the use of the Learning Center/Library facilities and its digital, physical, and print collections and for managing and overseeing the tutoring program for a diverse base of users and stakeholders. The Learning Center Coordinator/Librarian facilitates engagement with the learning center’s collections, services, spaces, and base of expertise. The Learning Center Coordinator/Librarian also provides circulation, reference, instruction, and other daily assistance to patrons from the college and community. In order to fulfill the objectives of this position, the Learning Center Coordinator/Librarian performs the following functions:
Essential Duties:
- Actively improves services to ensure that the Learning Center/Williamson Library is a modern user-centered learning facility. Regularly examines, revises, and retools the services and programming of the learning center/library to keep pace with changes in the field of higher education library and learner support services.
- Identifies, evaluates, and stays abreast of emerging trends, resources, practices and standards in electronic resource management, usage statistics, data management, access and discovery to enhance learning center/library services.
- Identifies needs and opportunities for engagement with campus and community patrons and potential users and works to develop services and events targeting those users.
- Works with the office of Institutional Effectiveness to develop and implement user surveys to inform and drive improvement.
- Routinely seeks feedback from stakeholders, including students, instructors and staff, and community patrons regarding user experience and usability issues. Implements improvements based on feedback received.
- In conjunction with the marketing department, develops and implements strategies to increase usage of learning center/library services (digital campaigns, printed materials, social media campaigns, advertising, events, displays, announcements, signage, etc.)
- With assistance from the Learning Center/Library Committee, formulates and follows policies and methods for carrying out the objectives of the learning center/library including but not limited to a comprehensive collections policy.
- Coordinates procedures of the learning center/library with Library Resources (at the North Carolina Community College System Office), when necessary.
- Maintains the proper statistical records and reports related to acquisition of materials, expenditures, circulation of materials, and overall learning center/library usage.
- Supervises the maintenance of the digital and print collections.
- Consults with faculty and instructional staff to select and order resources that become part of the learning center/library collection including resources to support new educational programs offered by the college.
- Works with faculty and instructional staff to acquire appropriate and beneficial resources and subscriptions. Seeks and acts upon faculty and instructional staff recommendations of materials for the collection.
- Solicits feedback from faculty and instructional staff regarding titles to be discarded from the collection.
- Chairs the Learning Center/Library Committee and serves on other college committees as designated.
- Provides learner support and library services to the college and to the community, assisting all patrons in the use of materials and services.
- Serves as representative of the learning center/library in interlibrary cooperation.
- Coordinates procedures for continued modernization and automation of learning center/library services.
- Works with the college webmaster on the design and upkeep of the Learning Center/Library webpage to ensure site currency, user-focused design functionality, and accessibility standards.
- Coordinates the updating of learning center/library handbooks and other informational aids.
- Evaluates gift materials to determine if they are to be added to the collection.
- Uses various selection tools/resources to identify possible additions for the collection.
- Determines which newly acquired items go into specific collections.
- Provides high-quality reference and research services to students, instructors, staff, and community patrons across variety of delivery options.

Educational Programming
- Develops, implements, delivers, and improves a learning center/library education program for SCC students and community patrons. Provides access to regular and timely instruction in the use of the learning center/library and other learning/information resources.
- Ensures that evening students, online students, and students at off-campus instructional sites are aware of and have access to learning center/library resources, services, and instruction.
- Promotes the learning center/library’s education program to faculty and instructional staff.
- Works with faculty and instructional staff to aid in the improvement of instruction.
- Utilizes interactive teaching methods to provide instructional sessions in both seated and online classes.
- Works with the Distance Learning Specialist to develop online tutorials for information literacy and library resources to be embedded on the learning center/library’s website or in curriculum courses within the college LMS.
- Other duties as assigned.
Oversight/Management
- Supervises and trains learning center/library personnel, work study students, tutors, and volunteers.
- Formulates plans for and documents the annual professional development activities of learning center/library staff. Ensures that all learning center/library staff have access to and complete position-appropriate professional learning opportunities each year.
- Presents at professional conferences and engages with outside professional organizations.
- Routinely researches innovations in the field of learning centers and libraries; recommends and/or implements forward-looking practices and resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Accreditation
- Builds and maintains an intimate knowledge of the principles of the accrediting body regarding all learning center/library support functions.
- Maintains accurate and updated records required by the accrediting body including but not limited to policies, collections, evidence and examples, user statistics and reports, user surveys, records/documentation of staff professional development activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Learner Support/Tutoring
- Coordinates and manages the college’s tutoring program including hiring, training, scheduling, and managing tutors. Responsible for documenting and reporting tutoring output and submitting each semester to the Information Administrator.
- Coordinates with instructors to identify qualified tutors.
- Working closely with program faculty/instructional staff, recruits new tutors and tutees for the program each semester.
