Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in health and physical education or a Master’s degree and eighteen (18) graduate hours in health and physical Education from an accredited institution in an area appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.
- Experience in coaching, teaching, and engaged in athletic programs at the K-12, community college, or university level.
- Maintain valid CDL license for driving the college bus.
Preferred Requirements
- Master’s degree in health and physical education from an accredited institution.
- 1-2 years of teaching experience.
- Experience using Moodle or Canvas.
- Community college experience in athletics, coaching, teaching, and/or advising.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Experience with NJCAA and Region X policies and by-laws.
Primary Functions of Position
The Health and Physical Education Instructor / Assistant Softball Coach advances the college mission by delivering high-quality academic instruction and supporting a competitive athletic program. This dual-enrollment role focuses on promoting student wellness, lifelong fitness, and holistic student-athlete development. The position fosters academic excellence in the classroom while cultivating a culture of teamwork, sportsmanship, and athletic achievement on the field.
Essential Duties:
Health & Physical Education Instructor
- Teach assigned courses according to the published curriculum with an assigned course load to meet College guidelines, goals, and objectives as assigned by the Dean of Student Learning and Innovation.
- Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with program and division policies.
- Develop and maintain an electronic learning site for all assigned courses through the current learning management system. Use and manage the LMS gradebook to accurately reflect student grades within a five-day grading window for student assessments.
- Organize course and subject matter to acquaint all students with course requirements including learning outcomes, methods of measurement, and evaluation.
- Maintain accurate scholastic and membership records of students enrolled in classes and prepare and submit reports as required.
- Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to maximize student learning.
- Use Watermark retention software to engage students, provide proactive support, and improve retention.
- Coordinate course materials decisions with program peers and supervisors.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information per the College and FERPA guidelines.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Vice President and College President.
- Work with the head softball coach to design and implement daily practice plans
- Assist with team travel, equipment management, fundraising, and the supervision of student-athletes during away games.
- Attend any mandatory Region X coaching meetings as necessary.
- Assist in the completion of any required Region X reports and documentation and ensure they are submitted on time.
- Read, understand, and abide by the current National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Constitution and Bylaws, the Region X Constitution and Bylaws, and the sport rule book as identified in the NJCAA Constitution and Bylaws.
- Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the softball field and surrounding athletic complex.
- Works with the Athletic Director and head softball coach on fundraising efforts to encourage direct giving, fundraising activities, and sponsorship support.
- Assists the head softball coach with maintaining a high caliber of team discipline both on and off the field.
- Supports established standards of dress, scholarship, and conduct for athletic teams on campus, during games, and while traveling.
- Works with head softball coach to develop community service opportunities for SCC’s student athletes.
- Recruit student-athletes in coordination with the Student Services Office.
- Assists head softball coaching in maintaining inventory records of uniforms, athletic equipment, and supplies.
- Will assist in the maintaining of the operation of the college gym/training room facility.

Assists the head softball coach in organizing athletic summer camps and clinics.
- Encourages student-athlete participation in campus leadership and student life activities.
- Ability to organize, plan, and lead.
- Ability to manage activities and supervise personnel.
- Knowledge of the budgeting process and procedures required of the college's business operations.
- Knowledge and understanding of the role of athletics in the educational process.
- Ability to enforce rules fairly and equitably.
- Ability to be fair and unprejudiced in relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
- Ability to communicate well in oral and written form.
- Ability to travel with the athletic teams to games and events free of external engagements or responsibilities.
- This is a 9-Month Faculty Position paid over 12 Months
