Purpose of the Job

- The Community Life Assistant supports the mission of SEBTS by cultivating meaningful community among graduate students and their families who live locally. This role primarily focuses on recruiting and leading a Graduate Life Hospitality Team and executing a community-building strategy within SEBTS neighborhoods through events, communication, and relational engagement. The position works closely with the rest of the Graduate Life team and campus partners to foster hospitality, connection, and Gospel-centered discipleship.

Explanation of Functions and Responsibilities
- Hospitality Team Recruitment & Leadership
- Identify and develop student leaders who desire to build community within their neighborhoods and apartment complexes.
- Annually recruit, interview, and assist with the selection of Hospitality Team members.
- Organize and coordinate Hospitality Team meetings.
- Meet regularly with Hospitality Team members for planning, prayer, leadership development, and encouragement.
- Neighborhood Community Building
- Plan, coordinate, and support neighborhood-wide events, activities, and relational initiatives throughout the semester.
- Ensure that each SEBTS neighborhood hosts consistent community-building opportunities.
- Event examples may include:
- Beginning-of-semester neighborhood cookouts
- Neighborhood outreach or service events
- End-of-semester gatherings
- Promote a welcoming culture within neighborhoods, including personal connection with incoming residents.
- Communication & Promotion
- Communicate regularly with neighborhood residents regarding events, activities, and opportunities both in the neighborhood and on campus.
- Collaborate with the SEBTS Communications Office to develop graphics and implement communication plans for students and campus audiences.
- Promote communal connection, hospitality, and ministry opportunities within SEBTS neighborhoods.
- Event Logistics & Administration
- Oversee residence life event scheduling in Coursedog.
- Coordinate event logistics, including delegation of responsibilities to staff and volunteers during events.
- Plan and manage a semester-based budget for Hospitality Team initiatives, including:
- Food, drinks, and event materials
- Community connection expenses
- Hospitality Team meetings
- Printing and promotional materials
- Miscellaneous event-related costs
- Ministry & Spiritual Formation
- Support evangelism and discipleship efforts connected to Graduate Life and neighborhood engagement.
- Encourage lighthearted, others-focused, and mission-minded culture among Hospitality Team members.
- Team Participation & Support
- Participate in established Graduate Life and Student Life team rhythms, including:
- Weekly Graduate Life stand-up meetings
- Daily Student Life stand-up meetings (as scheduled/appropriate for part-time role)
- Semesterly planning retreats
- Provide additional support to the Graduate Life office during peak seasons, such as New Student Orientation (NSO) and Welcome Week.
- Participate in established Graduate Life and Student Life team rhythms, including:

- Occasional: Department Directors and Assistants, local businesses, and non-SEBTS neighbors
- Rarely: President’s Cabinet, Associate Vice Presidents, miscellaneous others outside campus.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Walking – Heavy/Daily, around campus to deliver materials, attend meetings, and participate in campus events
- General Activity – High activity level required to meet responsibilities of the position

- Potential stressful situations related to ad hoc situations
- Longer work hours may be required during New Student Orientation/Welcome Week, and occasional other ad hoc situations.
