SEMRHI is a network of Community Health Centers that has been serving the health care needs in Southeast Mississippi for 45 years. We have a great opportunity for a Medical Assistant at our Women's Health Clinic. Certification not required.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Medical Assistant Interpreter performs a variety of tasks related to interpreting and follow-up. As a team member, the Medical Assistant Interpreter will demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the staff, patients, families and visitors of all age groups, while being sensitive to their culture and religious beliefs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively with the bilingual (Spanish speaking) patients
- Demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude toward patients and staff
- Keep the exam rooms stocked with necessary supplies
- Keep adequate supplies on hand
- Understand the importance of patient confidentiality
- Be prompt in returning the exam rooms to proper order after each patient
- Adhere to universal precautions at all times
- Consistently exhibit hand-washing techniques
- Deliver collected specimens to the lab
- Be readily available to assist providers and other clinical staff as needed
- Keep the work area clean and organized
- Ability to clean dirty instruments and to properly prepare/process them for sterilization
- Assist in preparing patient correspondence for mailing
- Assist the nurse manager with appointment follow-up as requested
- Be aware of patient flow so that exam rooms are cleaned at the end of the day
- Fax referrals and schedule appointments as needed
- Assist nurse manager as requested
- Demonstrate flexibility in job duties
- Understand the medical records system
- Maintains prompt and regular attendance
- Verify timecard at the end of each pay period
- Performs related work, as assigned
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred Medical Assistant Certification
- Basic computer and typing skills required
- Experience in a business/clerical setting
- Knowledge of basic record keeping and filing systems
- Prior Spanish interpretation experience required
- Excellent written and oral communications
- Multi-task assisting patients with necessary forms while maintaining a positive attitude
- Must have a professional attitude and professional appearance
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Continuously listen, visualize, have dexterity and eye-hand coordination, ability for simple grasping and speed work
- Must frequently stand, squat, reach, use both right and left forearm rotation and walk
- Must show a dedication to duty, including a willingness to travel and work extended hours as necessary.
- Must occasionally kneel, twist have ability to grasp firmly, lift and carry, push and pull in excess of 10 lbs.
