Job Summary
SECIS has a part-time commercial/residential construction draw inspector position available. Hours are flexible and include one to five full days of work at the beginning of every month. Candidate must already live in the local area.
Job Duties: Make site visits to construction projects to inspect completed work in place. Accurately document work completed at the time of inspection. Plan conformance and Building Code interpretation is not required. Site inspections will include all or some of the following: filling out a spreadsheet, taking narrative notes about completed work, meeting contractors on-site, and documenting work progress with photographs.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: (a) driving to construction projects within 24 hours of being assigned an job, (b) discussing construction progress with site supervisor/superintendent (c) reviewing construction budget (d) taking a variety of photographs of the entire site, completed work, and materials stored onsite. A typical commercial inspection should take no more than 1-2 hours. Large scale commercial will be more time consuming.
Requirements: Advanced construction understanding is required; our best inspectors typically have multiple years’ experience in the field including various trades, or as a supervisor or superintendent on commercial projects. Must be comfortable with commonplace construction terminology, current construction means and methods and working in adverse weather conditions from time to time. Ability to read blue prints, scopes of work, and other construction documents. Must have valid driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle. Must be computer literate and be able to work with Excel, Word and Outlook. Experience with Microsoft Publisher is a plus. Familiarity with tablets including I-pads or Android devices is beneficial. Must be able to read and follow maps and have a basic knowledge of the local area. Experience with Plat Developments Heavy Civil Construction is also a beneficial.
Typical Pay scale for Inspectors with residential experience is $18-22/hour. Typical pay for Inspectors with Plat Construction or Civil Construction experience is $44-48/hour. New Inspectors will be given training in our system. Inspectors are expected to be able to complete a minimum of 5-10 inspections per day after training is completed. Heavy volumes occur early in the month. Extensive travel may be associated with this position, incumbent must have a vehicle.
1099 CONTRACT OPTION
These positions can also be arranged as a 1099 Contract Position, so long as inspectors have established business licensing and can provide documentation of business insurance. Compensation schedule for 1099 contractor is slightly higher and is paid per project. Some of our best 1099 inspectors have established Appraisal, Home Inspection, Construction Workeragement or other businesses and make substantial supplemental income performing construction draw inspections.
