General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Student Accommodations, the Accessible Orientation Instructor/Demonstrator is responsible for providing accessible (hand-over-hand) demonstrations for blind/visually impaired student(s). This is a part-time, temporary position.
Essential Functions
- Attend lab and lecture courses in the watersports, automotive, & welding spaces.
- Watch demonstrations given by the instructors.
- Provide the same demonstration to the blind or visually impaired student in a “hand over hand” manner, in order for the student to have access to the demonstration.

Marginal Functions
- May require taking notes during the demonstrations.
- Must be able to follow and watch for appropriate safety protocols when working in the different spaces.
- May require additional communication with The Accommodations Resource Office if/when course materials are needed.
- May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
- Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to listen, watch, and comprehend information in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to relay exact, clear information and/or ask questions when unsure.
- Ability to encourage autonomy in the student they are providing demonstrations for.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
- Ability to use basic computer skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
- The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma
Desired Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Automotive.
- Experience working in a classroom setting.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities.

Part-time temporary employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account, with no match provided by the College.
Schedule
Normal working hours for this part-time temporary position are scheduled between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, based on a 29-hour workweek based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
