Pay Range

Pay Range:$47.69 - $67.19 Responsible for independently performing electrophysiologic examinations and evaluations, including electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) of the upper and lower extremities. This role includes both the professional and technical components of electrodiagnostic testing for the evaluation of neuromuscular and peripheral nerve disorders. The position functions within an interdisciplinary specialty care environment supporting orthopedics, neurology, rehabilitation, and surgical services across the SEARHC system.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Clinical and Technical Functions

  • Perform clinical needle electromyography and motor and sensory nerve conduction studies for upper and lower extremities.
  • Establish appropriate rapport with patients and explain examination procedures and expectations.
  • Obtain and review relevant patient history and conduct systems review to plan appropriate electrophysiologic testing.
  • Ensure proper equipment setup, calibration, sterile technique, infection control, and patient safety standards.
  • Recognize technical and physiologic artifacts and take corrective action as needed.

Analysis, Interpretation, and Documentation

  • Analyze and interpret EMG and NCS findings within scope of licensure, training, and credentialing.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely electrodiagnostic reports with clinically relevant findings and impressions.
  • Communicate examination results and recommendations to ordering providers and members of the care team.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

Patient Care, Quality, and Collaboration

  • Educate patients on testing procedures while maintaining comfort, dignity, and privacy.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and specialty staff.
  • Participate in quality assurance, documentation standards, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • (CE and credential is monitored) Support program development, accreditation, audit requirements, and workflow improvements related to EMG and electrodiagnostic services.

Education And Licensure Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted licensure in the State of Alaska as one of the following:
  • Physical Therapist (PT), or
  • Other applicable licensed health professional whose scope of practice permits independent performance and interpretation of EMG and nerve conduction studies.
  • Educational preparation consistent with electrophysiologic examination and evaluation, including anatomy, neuroanatomy, muscle and nerve physiology, clinical neurology, pathology, and electrophysiologic testing principles.
  • National EMG/NCS certification (e.g., R.NCS.T., CNCT, ECS or equivalent) preferred if not otherwise required by licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience independently performing and interpreting EMG and nerve conduction studies.
  • Demonstrated experience with upper and lower extremity electrodiagnostic testing, which includes maintained Clinical Electrophysiology Board Certification by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS).

KNOWLEDGE

  • Advanced knowledge of neuromuscular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Proficiency with electrophysiologic testing equipment and related biomedical technology

Skills

  • Strong clinical reasoning, differential diagnosis, and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Abilities

  • Direct patient care with exposure to clinical procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive diagnostic reports.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary specialty care team and to provide outpatient clinical environment with potential travel to regional or field clinic locations
  • Ability to position patients and perform motor tasks associated with electrode and needle placement.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and cultural respect within SEARHC communities.

Clinical Electrophysiology Board Certification - American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS), Physical Therapist License - State of Alaska - Alaska State Board of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy
