Key Essential Functions And Accountabilities Of The Job
- Assist in organizing social, recreational, religious, and cultural activity programs. Assist in making necessary arrangements for community groups to come and provide any such programs.
- Take care that each individual resident will be aware of each activity and ask if he/she would like to participate.
- Provide instruction for residents’ projects when necessary or advisable.
- Encourage resident participation in activities according to his/her interest and capacity.
- Cooperate with other departments, especially the nursing staff and food service in coordinating activity programs into facility's overall pattern.
- Maintain necessary record keeping.
- Attend required in-services.
- Participate in public relations effort.
- Demonstrate a willingness to work for the best interests of institution.
- Be punctual and dependable.
- Initiate plans and implement activity programs alongside the Activities Director.
- Supervise others.
- Detect subtle changes in residents that may indicate distress. Genuinely love and understand the aged and handicapped, and be willing to work with them consistently, despite regressions and seemingly insidious progress.
- Use tact and courtesy in dealing with residents, their families and visitors, and staff.
- Assist in organizing and mentoring volunteers for activity-oriented projects in the Wrangell Medical Center Long Term Care Facility.
- Assist in the day room with resident safety as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate (CNA) from an accredited program.
- Current full, unrestricted Alaska CNA license.
- A current state of Alaska driver’s license.
- Basic Life Support
- Food handlers’ card within 3 months of hire.
- Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- Experience working with older people and on activities programs preferred.
- Experience using basic craft materials.
- Previous experience in long-term care facilities.
