What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Southeast Alabama Gas District?
Southeast Gas has an immediate opening for a Senior Accountant at its Andalusia Office.
Responsibilities for the job include:
- Financial reporting, budgeting, and financial planning
- Preparing annual financial statements, GASB disclosures, and regulatory filings
- Analyzing budgets, forecasts, and variance reporting
- Preparing monthly financial and operational reports
- Providing support on financial policies, expenditures, and accounting interpretations
- Cross-department collaboration, mentoring, and training support
- Assisting with audits, accounting system implementations, and regulatory research
- Conducting financial analysis and special projects to support organizational goals
Job requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Master’s degree preferred)
- CPA or CGFM certification preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in FASB/GASB reporting, financial statement presentation, and utility or governmental accounting environments
- Previous public accounting or internal/external audit experience preferred
- Advanced knowledge of FASB/GASB reporting standards, governmental accounting practices, financial statement preparation, and accounting systems
- Proficient in accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and general office systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work in an office environment and sit for extended periods of time
