SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
A Southcoast Welding and Manufacturing’s (SCWM) Project Manager (PM) is the Project Team Leader and SCWM’s Customer liaison. The Project Manager’s overarching responsibility is to provide the leadership, guidance, and support necessary to ensure the success of the project in terms of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Profitability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES
- Serve as the point of contact (POC) for project matters.
- Set Project Team expectations and priorities
- Monitor and report physical progress and financial status
- Review Inspection Deficiency Reports (IDR) for completeness
- Direct coordination efforts among SCWM, SCWM subcontractors, and the Customer
- Remove obstacles and resolve conflicts
- Identify production inefficiencies and work with the appropriate Department Head to correct
- Work closely with the Safety and QA departments
- Survey the work sites regularly to gain first-hand knowledge production issues
- Host project meetings with SCWM crafts and Department Heads
- Attend requisite Customer meetings
- Must adhere to a promote ALL company safety policies. Wear all required PPE when in Production areas and promote a clean and safe work environment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and COMPETENCIES
- Basic knowledge of government contracting and NavSea Standard Items
- Working knowledge of trade, QA, and Safety interdependencies
- Working knowledge of the planning and scheduling process
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and schedules
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent people skills to work well with Customer and SCWM personnel
- Ability to work independently to achieve project and SCWM goals
- Working knowledge of Microsoft suite, WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, and POWERPOINT

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Project Manager must be able to meet and successfully perform the essential functions of this job, which includes touring the job site on a regular basis. Projects are frequently related to ship repair work which requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, climbing, and crouching. The PM must be able to access any place on the jobsite where work is being accomplished. In addition, the PM must be able to: Climb vertical ladders and work from scaffolding; enter and tolerate confined spaces; and Lift, carry, and push up to 50 lbs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY
The PM is responsible for the coordination of SCWM crafts and SCWM subcontractors with the Customer’s schedule to the extent needed to resolve production conflicts. The PM is not responsible for supervising day to day production activities. The PM may also be responsible for supervising junior project managers and other administrative support assigned to the project.
POSITION TYPE / HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time salary (exempt) position. The salary is based on a 40-hour work week. SCWM’s basic work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but this is subject to change depending on the needs of the project. Overtime and weekend work will be required based on the needs of the project.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and CREDENTIALS
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Able to secure a DBIDs
- Able to fluently read, speak, and understand English
- Seven plus (7 ) years of experience in the ship repair industry, 2 years of which in a supervisory capacity. Experience in other heavy industries may be considered.
- Able to travel for up to 25% of the time per year
- Travel within the U.S. may be required
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and CREDENTIALS
- Certificate(s) in supervisory or other related industry disciplines
- Fluent in a second language, especially Spanish
- Five years of shipboard work experience
