What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time Reference Librarian position at Southampton Free Library?
The Southampton Free Library is looking for an energetic, organized Reference Assistant who will report directly to the Head of Reference. The successful candidate will assist patrons with reference questions, reader’s advisory requests, troubleshooting basic computer and software issues as well as assist with Library programs. This Assistant will have proven clerical abilities and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish a rapport and excellent communication with patrons and staff.
Major Duties: Responsible for identifying and interpreting patron needs; provide friendly, quality information/ reference services, reader’s advisory, and related public services to all ages both in person and over the telephone. Assist with the use of printed and electronic materials, OPACS, PCs, and related equipment and software.
Other Tasks: Assists with the filing of patron requests for materials. Assists with the maintenance of the library’s collection in all formats. Assist with adult programming. May handle patron complaints and patron behavior problems. May assist with the ordering of new materials. May provide library instruction. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Some college coursework. Library experience preferred. Must be comfortable with technology.

Schedule: Part-time 19 hours per week. Rotating Saturday, and some evening and day hours.
